[edit] Exploitation of a Live Show

It would be an interesting addition to the article if we were to add a section regarding the many documented cases of people in the outside audience engaging in the exploitation of Live TV by various means. --131.247.22.157 20:16, 27 February 2006 (UTC)

There is one black man that's seen in the outside audience every day, and the anchors even celebrated his birthday. Who is this man, or is it a case of exploitation of live TV? 70.171.209.15 (talk) 14:21, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

This is currently being pointed to on the Main Page as an Anniversary article. Links to this page indicate it went on the air on January 14, 1952, but the page itself says the program didn't start until 1955. Doh! —Mulad 22:25, 14 Jan 2004 (UTC)

More history should be included. Jane Pauley and Bryant Gumbel became household names on this show and more needs to be said. Mike H 22:03, Sep 5, 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Title

Why is this article titled "The Today Show"? The correct name of the show is just "Today." NBC never refers to it by anything but the one-word name. Michael J 04:52, 27 January 2006 (UTC)

Better late than never, but, for the record, Local 4 WDIV Detroit introduces it as, "The Today Show"... Just for the record. --Signed and Sealed, JJJJust (T C) 10:58, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

That is the official name of the show from the very beginning.

[edit] Summer co-hosts

I don't think the Summer co-hosts should be listed under the hosts section. They re not hosts and are only fill-ins Aronk 02:54, 3 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Brand Extensions

There was also a THIRD brand extension to the Today show. It actually preceded Early Today & Later Today in 1999, as the FIRST brand extension. In 1982, Today introduced an earlier show titled "Early Today" (same name as the show in 1999). It was hosted by Gumbel & Pauley, and aired from 6 to 7 AM, preceding the Today show. It only lasted a year, as doing three hours a day (and having to get up an hour earlier) started to wear on the two hosts. The show was cancelled in 1983, and replaced by NBC News at Sunrise. Could someone add this fact in under the Brand Extensions. I'm not a regular contributor to this page, so I'd feel kind of funny stepping on someone's territory. Thanks

[edit] West Coast Feed

I'm pretty uninitiated when it comes to US broadcasting, so how exactly does the west coast feed of the Today Show look? Are the news updates recorded like the rest of the program or does the west coast get live news from the NYC studio, if so, are they presented by the regular newsreaders? Thanks --Pneumaman 10:15, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

I live on the West coast, they only updated the show if breaking news happens and the show still looks the same. Usually its just a new opening of the show and they say Pacific on the Live graphic

[edit] Looking for segment

I'm a teacher looking for the name of a segment they used to do on the Today Show. Someone would throw a dart at the U.S. map. Then the reporter would go to the city indicated by the dart and pull a random name from the phone book. The reporter would then do a feature story on that person.

Thanks.

[edit] Today vs. The Today Show

NBC, and flagship station WNBC refer to it as "Today." For this reason, I am going to change the title to "Today". Forgive me if we have decided against it on a page other than this one. aido2002 06:05, 23 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hour 4 Contract Restrictions

I know Meredith Vierra is by contract barred from hosting past 9am ET due to being host of Who Wants To Be A Millionarie. But why is Matt Laurer contractually barred? Article says both are but does not explain why. Dwp49423 16:05, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

I was wondering this myself. I would assume that if anything, Lauer is not contractually obligated to appear during the third hour, since I'm fairly sure he's appeared then since Vieira joined and his contract was renegotiated. — BrotherFlounder 14:46, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Pauley/Norville controversy

A section on this most memorable moment in Today history is lacking. Anybody up for doing the citation legwork? Lambertman 22:13, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Log11452.jpg

Image:Log11452.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

[edit] Weather personnel

Lacks a mention of Joe_Witte, who had a degree in meteorology, and was backup for a period. Wfoj2 (talk) 01:24, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Controversies heading

Does anyone think there needs to be a qualifier under the sub-heading "Memogate" for this article, since usually when the term "Memogate" is used, it refers to the CBS incident during the 2004 campaign that, among other things, ran Dan Rather out of the CBS Evening News anchor chair? WAVY 10 Fan (talk) 19:37, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Special editions

Does this article really need a mention of every single time in the history of the show that one of the anchors has been outside New York? And can these be verified as the only times this has happened, or is this list both very long and incomplete? JTRH (talk) 19:40, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
