RE: "Similarities to Harry Potter Many people have noticed similarities between Timothy Hunter — a bespectacled English teenager with family troubles who has a magical owl as a pet — and the later and more famous Harry Potter of J.K. Rowling's novels. Gaiman has been quoted as saying[citation needed] that any similarities between the two are largely superficial and most likely reflect the fact that both draw on common archetypes.

I would remove the sentence "Most significantly, the original miniseries was published long before the Harry Potter books, the first of which was published in 1997." for this reason: JK Rowling originally got the idea for Harry Potter in 1990, the year Tim Hunter first appeared in print. I agree with Gaiman that similarities are largely superficial, yet the fact Tim Hunter may well have been an influence at least. I have no knowledge of Rowling denying it. My point is that saying "most significantly" and "long before" is not relevant because of the date coincidence. --84.100.17.73 21:57, 21 April 2007 (UTC)

Ok, I would be confused. A character called Tim Hunter appears in this collection, and refers to himself as 'The Merlin'. I assumed that this guy is the same character, but in the Hellblazer comic, he appears to die. I sort of have a *huge* question mark about this. Can any sort this out for me? I've expanded the character history as much as I can: I don't have copies of Hunter: The Age of Magic so I can't say what happened to Tim past Names of Magic. Anyone care to help? JonStrines (talk) 12:33, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

I've reverted an edit to add back in a statement that Tim Hunter has a scarred forehead: he doesn't, and none of the articles discussing the similarities that are cited make this mistake either. The similarity is just down to the age, the magic and the owl. JonStrines (talk) 08:42, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
