- ^ For a brief period between Doug Sandom's leaving and Keith Moon's joining, The Who employed a few session drummers to gig with them.
- ^ Between July and October 1964, the band were renamed The High Numbers by their manager at the time, Peter Meaden.
- ^ Keith Moon was injured during the band's 1967 European tour, and was substituted for by Chris Townson on the final UK leg.
- ^ Keith Moon lost consciousness during a show in San Francisco on November 20, 1973, and was substituted for by audience member Scott Halpin.
- ^ John Bundrick was not able to join the band at The Concert for NYC in 2001, and was substituted for by Jon Carin.
- ^ John Bundrick was tending to his terminally ill wife between Nov. 2006 and Mar. 2007 and was substituted for by his keyboard tech Brian Kehew.
