Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony is held annually in March and sponsored by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It is one of several annual US music awards shows (including the Billboard Music Awards, the American Music Awards, the Grammy Awards, and the GMA Music Awards, among others).
Each year the ceremonies honor a small group of artists for their contribution to music history. Current eligibility rules dictate 25 years from an artist or group's first record release.
Each artist/group's presentation is usually followed by a special performance from the inductee (or, if the artist(s) has/have died, by an associate of or representing the artist). For a list of those who have been inducted over the years, scroll below.
The annual ceremony usually ends with an all-star jam session (on the mold of those that used to end Dick Clark's American Bandstand specials).
Before 2007, this was the most prominent music awards ceremony that was not aired live (except on closed-circuit television at the Hall of Fame building on the night of the ceremony). However, on March 12. 2007, the annual ceremony aired live for the first time in standard definition on VH1 Classic and in high definition on MHD, as well as online via AOL. Edited versions will continue to air on sister network VH1, in addition to VH1 Classic and MHD, and in television syndication.
