IMDb profile

The Musketeer is a Peter Hyams film very loosely based on Alexandre Dumas, père's classic novel The Three Musketeers, starring Catherine Deneuve, Tim Roth, Mena Suvari, Stephen Rea, Nick Moran, Bill Treacher and Justin Chambers.

The film is notable for eschewing historical European swordfighting in its action sequences, for Hong Kong film-style martial arts choreography and wirework. This movie even has Tsui Hark's regular actor Xin-Xin Xiong as a stunt choreographer. [1]

The film enjoyed a commercial success in the United States. This film topped the US box office upon its release in September 2001, and went on grossing $27 million in US box office.[2] Since Universal Pictures and Miramax Films only paid $7.5 million to buy the North America and U.K. distribution rights of this film[3], this film was very profitable for those two studios.

[edit] Critics' Reaction

The film received extremely poor reviews, garnering only 10% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. [4] Many critics cited terrible acting, unrealistic action scenes, and confusing editing.
