The Complete Superman Collection
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Complete Superman Collection (TCSC) is a 4-disc DVD box set of Superman films released on May 1, 2001 by Warner Home Video. The set is no longer offered for retail sale, as it was replaced by the The Christopher Reeve Superman Collection, released on November 28, 2006. The latter is essentially an update and repackaging of TCSC, with both containing all four Superman films starring Christopher Reeve (made between 1978 and 1987). The newer release includes four additional discs of supplemental material including the original theatrical cut of the 1978 film and bonus material for all four films.
The set is not to be confused with The Complete Superman Collection - Diamond Anniversary Edition DVD, which was a single disc containing all seventeen of the 1941-1943 Paramount Superman cartoon classics of Max and Dave Fleischer, released on August 01, 2000.

Note: the language and subtitles information below is for the U.S. version of the discs. International versions include various languages, depending on the country and/or area of release.
[edit] Superman: The Movie
The collection incorporates the DVD director's cut of the first Superman film starring Christopher Reeve. Released in 2001 (as part of this collection as well as a standalone disc), it contains eight minutes of previously-deleted footage that was originally only seen in television broadcasts of the film in the 1980s. The film also includes a new audio mix and has been digitally restored.
A breakdown of the disc is as follows:
- New 2000 expanded edition movie with remastered soundtrack in Dolby Digital 5.1
- Commentary track by director Richard Donner and writer Tom Mankiewicz.
- Isolated music track
- Three behind-the-scenes documentaries with cast & crew
- Screen tests from screen tests for Lois Lane, Ursa, and Superman
- Audio outtakes
- Two theatrical trailers
- TV spot
The interviews included were conducted some 20 years after the original film, and the screen tests feature those of Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder, as well as other actresses who auditioned for Lois Lane such as Anne Archer and Stockard Channing. The DVD is a single-disc and labeled "Expanded Edition".
Only this initial film has been remixed and restored for this collection.
[edit] Superman II
The collection features one disc containing the theatrical cut of the film and a theatrical trailer.
[edit] Superman III
The collection features the theatrical cut of Superman III. There has been some demand for an alternate version of the film, as was done with the first two films. Superman III has previously been screened in two radically different versions: The theatrical version, and the television/broadcast version. Only the theatrical version is included with the collection. (See Superman III - Extra footage for a list of differences). The film is single-disc and also includes a theatrical trailer for the film as well as actor filmographies.
[edit] Superman IV: The Quest for Peace
The collection features the theatrical cut of Superman IV: The Quest for Peace. There has been some demand for an alternate versions of the film, as with the first two films.
It is known that a significant amount of footage (45 minutes) was cut from Superman IV, which has almost never been included in any release outside of its ill-fated Southern California preview screening. This footage has since been found, although it was not yet available at the time TCSC was released.
The film is single-disc and also includes a theatrical trailer for the film as well as actor filmographies.
