Strathkelvin and Bearsden is a constituency of the Scottish Parliament (Holyrood). It elects one Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) by the first past the post method of election. Also, however, it is one of nine constituencies in the West of Scotland electoral region, which elects seven additional members, in addition to nine constituency MSPs, to produce a form of proportional representation for the region as a whole.

[edit] Electoral region
The other eight constituencies of the West of Scotland region are Dumbarton, Clydebank and Milngavie, Cunninghame North, Eastwood, Greenock and Inverclyde, Paisley North, Paisley South and West Renfrewshire.
The region covers the West Dunbartonshire council area, the East Renfrewshire council area, the Inverclyde councila area, most of the Renfrewshire council area, most of the East Dunbartonshire council area, part of the Argyll and Bute council area and part of the North Ayrshire council area.
[edit] Constituency boundaries
The Strathkelvin and Bearsden constituency was created at the same time as the Scottish Parliament, in 1999, with the name and boundaries of an existing Westminster constituency. In 2005, however, the Westminster (House of Commons) constituency was abolished in favour of new constituencies.[1]
[edit] Council area
The Holyrood constituency is entirely within the East Dunbartonshire council area, which is divided between three Holyrood constituencies: Strathkelvin and Bearsden, Clydebank and Milngavie and Coatbridge and Chryston.
The Clydebank and Milngavie constituency, which is also within the West of Scotland electoral region, is to the west of Strathkelvin and Bearsden, covering a western portion of the East Dunbartonshire council area and an eastern portion of the West Dunbartonshire council area.
Coatbridge and Chryston, a constituency in the Central Scotland electoral region, is to the south of Strathkelvin and Bearsden, covering a south-eastern portion of the East Dunbartonshire council area and a western portion of the North Lanarkshire council area.
