[edit] Personal Life & His Career
Soundz, whose real name is Kenneth C. Coby, was born in Milwaukee, and grew up in the city of Decatur, which is on the outskirts of Atlanta, Georgia. His parents relocated away from Milwaukee in 1997 to pursue a dream, which was to make it into the music industry. While his parents worked, Kenneth attended Redan High School, where he developed a passion for sports and a hunger for money. At the time, it was his dream to become a professional basketball player, but in his senior year at high school the head coach dismissed him from the School team. Kenneth was devastated.
Kenneth also had another passion; a passion for music, and more so rapping. He began to spend his time writing music and rapping, as he wanted to follow in the footsteps of a successful rapper. One of his influences was, and still is Jay-Z. One of Kenneth's friends had heard him rap and thought he was good at doing so.[citation needed] This friend of his had downloaded a program from the Internet which allowed him to create his own beats, perfect at the time. As he tried to pursue a rapping career, Kenneth called himself 'Soundmind', while one of his close friends nicknamed him 'Sounds'. This close friend, unknown at the time, was to be arrested and jailed shortly after he created Kenneth's nickname Sounds. In remembrance, Soundmind changed his name to Sounds, but added a little 'pizzazz' to it, eventually renaming himself 'Soundz'.
Since this point, Soundz has produced a non-stop stream of smooth R&B tracks and hard hittin' Hip Hop beats, but it's from his experience in life that makes his beats and productions what they are; truly amazing and outstanding. Soundz has a full understanding of what music can and should be, due to the fact that he's a rapper himself, and he has had a musically-inclined upbringing by his parents. This, he claims, is what makes him appeal to so many artists and music industry affiliates. His musical talent was spotted by Usher Raymond, when he heard the track Soundz produced for and with R&B group One Chance. This track, entitled Look At Her, was to become the first single of the band when Usher made Soundz an offer which he couldn't refuse. Soundz said "This is perfect timing. I wasn't ready a year ago, I cant even lie, but now.... I'm confident in succeeding in anything I put my mind to".[citation needed] Soundz is now under Infra-Red Management, where he has been able and will continue to work with top Hip Hop and R&B artists.
