Rozonda Ocelean Thomas (born February 27, 1971) better known by her stage name Chilli, is an American R&B singer and actress who rose to fame as one third of the successful R&B/Hip-Hop girl group TLC.

Rozonda Ocelean Thomas was born February 27, 1971 in Atlanta, Georgia [1] and graduated from B.E. Mays High School. She was born to a mother of Native American and African-American descent,[2] [3]and her father is of East Indian and Arab descent.[2] [3]

Thomas, who had been raised by her mother, met her father for the first time on the Sally Jessy Raphael television talk show in 1996.[4] She had a relationship with producer Dallas Austin, and they have a son together who was born June 2, 1997 and named Tron.[5] [3] However, their relationship did not last long after their son's birth. Later, she dated Usher for three years, but their relationship ended yet they remain friends.[2]

[edit] 1992 - 2004: TLC
Thomas was first a dancer for Damian Dame. In 1991, she joined TLC, replacing founding member Crystal Jones, and was nicknamed "Chilli" so that the group could retain the name TLC. The group went on to sell over 45 million records worldwide; solidifying themselves as one of the best selling girl groups of all-time. In 1995 and in 2003, Chilli was voted one of People magazine's "50 Most Beautiful People". She is the lead singer of the group TLC when doing their R&B songs, and some of their Hip Hop songs. While fellow band member T-Boz was the lead singer for the other songs the group recorded. [4]
[edit] 2005 - present: Solo career
Since the hiatus of TLC, Thomas has hosted a radio show in Atlanta and has engaged in charitable activities. In 2006, she was number 90 on Maxim's Hot 100. Despite rumors of having signed a four-album deal with singer/rapper Akon's label Kon Live Distribution in 2006, she later denied these reports and confirmed that she entertaining offers from other record labels.[6] The album will still include work done with executive producer Missy Elliott as well as tracks produced by Timbaland, Dallas Austin and Will.i.am. Some of the songs have already been leaked on the Internet. A track titled "Gameproof," which featured her TLC band mate T-Boz, was leaked in spring 2006. On February 16, 2007, "Straight Jack," a track featuring Missy Elliott and produced by Polow Da Don was leaked, but is not slated to be featured on her debut album. The song's composition is now used by Nicole Scherzinger's first single, "Whatever U Like." "Straight Jack" recently entered the Deutsche Black Chart in at #35.[7] A track was released to the Internet in early April 2008, titled "Dumb, Dumb, Dumb" which is scheduled to be the new first official single.[8] It was recently confirmed that the name of the album will be Bipolar and will be out September 2, 2008 as posted in a recent press release.[citation needed]

Thomas made guest appearances on shows such as The Parkers, That 70s Show, and Strong Medicine. In 2000 she was featured in the made-for-television movies A Diva's Christmas Carol (with Vanessa L. Williams)[9] and Love Song (with Monica), and in the film Snow Day. In 2001 she co-starred in the action film Ticker, directed by Albert Pyun ("Brain Smasher", "A Love Story" and "Cyborg"). She also played a short role in the 1997 film Hav Plenty. Thomas is now working on a line of handbags, titled, Bags by Chilli.[10].
