[edit] History

The club entered the Conference League on foundation but moved up to the Premier League in 2002. The Oak Tree Arena was built totally from scratch ready for the 2000 season.[2]

The Rebels have already won three trophies in their relatively short history, the Conference League Trophy & Conference League KO Cup in 2001, and the Premier League Fours Championship in 2005. The club came close to winning the 'Fours' title again in 2006, finishing runners up to the hosts Workington. 2007 saw the Rebels finish second again, this time to the Isle of Wight, the meeting being held at Peterborough.

The 2006 season saw Somerset reach the Premier League Knock Out Cup Final for the first time, finishing runners up to King's Lynn. The Rebels repeated this feat in 2007, making the final for a second time, but once again they had to content themselves with the runners up spot as King's Lynn won the trophy for the third year in a row.

The 2008 season saw a major change in the club's line up in that their number 1 for the past three seasons, Magnus Zetterstrom, was not retained with the Somerset management looking for a more solid line up given the greater emphasis on away wins. He was replaced by Jason Doyle who had spent the previous season at Elite League team Poole. After completing their line up, Somerset's plans were rocked with news of an injury sustained by Ritchie Hawkins when riding in an indoor meeting in Germany. The injuries were such that they would keep the 24 year old out of the saddle for the whole season. The club moved quickly to sign the experienced American international, Brent Werner, as replacement for Hawkins.

A further setback hit the team less than a month before the start of the season when Tom Hedley informed the club that he had decided against riding in the UK for the 2008 season. With just 5 days left until the Rebels 2008 Season Launch Day, the club signed German Henning Loof as replacement for Hedley.

Loof found points difficult to come by, and was replaced by the Rebels management by fellow German Matthias Kröger in mid-April, with Loof moving on to join injury hit team Mildenhall Fen Tigers.
