The Scottish Premier Reserve League is the top reserve team league for Scottish football teams. The competition started at the same time as the inauguration of the Scottish Premier League in the 1998-99 season and was initially an under-21 league, with a quota of 5 players over the age limit allowed per team, per match.

The inaugural competition was won by St Johnstone, who won 17 of their 27 matches, losing on only 5 occasions, most notably 5-0 to Dundee United on 6 May 1999.

[edit] Stadiums

Some of the clubs participating have opted to use alternate stadiums for their reserve team matches.

Falkirk F.C., Inverness Caledonian Thistle, St. Mirren and Kilmarnock will play their reserve games at their normal home stadiums. Gretna F.C. are playing their home games at Fir Park as their own stadium Raydale Park does not meet SPL requirements. Their reserve fixtures are still hosted at Raydale.
