South of Scotland Football League

The South of Scotland Football League is an amateur football competition based in the south of Scotland. Another earlier league of the same name briefly existed during the early days of competitive football. The current league is considered to be the weakest of Scotland's three "senior" non-leagues (the other two being the Highland Football League and the East of Scotland Football League).

The original South of Scotland Football League was created in 1892-93 and featured these clubs:
- 5th Kirkcudbrightshire Rifle Volunteers F.C
- Queen of the South Wanderers F.C.
- Mauchline F.C.
- Cronberry Eglinton F.C.
- Lugar Boswell F.C.
- Springbank F.C.
- Lanemark F.C.
The competition was abandoned and no championship was awarded.

The present South of Scotland Football League was formed in 1946 and currently features these clubs:
- Abbey Vale F.C.
- Annan Athletic F.C. 'A'
- Creetown F.C.
- Crichton F.C.
- Dalbeattie Star F.C. 'A'
- Dumfries F.C.
- Fleet Star F.C.
- Mid Annandale F.C.
- Newton Stewart F.C.
- Nithsdale Wanderers F.C.
- St. Cuthbert Wanderers F.C.
- Stranraer F.C. 'A'
- Stranraer Athletic F.C.
- Threave Rovers F.C.
- Wigtown & Bladnoch F.C..
Threave Rovers, St. Cuthbert Wanderers, Newton Steawart and Wigtown & Bladnoch meet the ground standards required for the Scottish Cup and are allowed to enter it. The senior teams for Annan Athletic, Dalbeattie Star and Stranraer are also allowed to enter.
The Challenge Cup is the league's main knockout competition and it has been played since 1891. Stranraer, Dalbeattie Star and Annan Athletic enter their reserve teams in the league.
