[edit] Welcome

Hello Samwisep86 and welcome to Wikipedia! I'm glad you've chosen to join us. This is a great project with lots of dedicated people, which might seem intimidating at times, but don't let anything discourage you. Be bold!, explore, and contribute. Try to be civil by following simple guidelines and signing your talk comments with ~~~~ but never forget that one of our central tenets is to ignore all rules.

If you want to learn more, Wikipedia:Tutorial is the place to go, but eventually the following links might also come in handy:
Help
FAQ
Glossary
Manual of Style

Float around until you find something that tickles your fancy. One easy way to do this is to hit the random page button in the navigation bar to the left. Additionally, the Community Portal offers a more structured way to become acquainted with the many great committees and groups that focus on specific tasks. My personal favorite stomping grounds are Wikipedia:Translation into English as well as the cleanup, welcoming, and counter-vandalism committees. Finally, the Wikimedia Foundation has several other wiki projects that you might enjoy. If you have any more questions, always feel free to ask me anything on my talk page. Again, welcome! -- Draeco 06:57, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Excellent work

I wanted to drop a note that since the last time I worked on Loyola's article, you have done an amazing job. Keep it up. For a Greater Loyola.--Riurik 22:17, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Greetings

Thanks for your work on Wikipedia and here at camp! Scoutersig 19:32, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

I just totally stole your SAK userbox and jerryrigged it for Sigma Chi. I don't know what I did, but I spent like thirty minutes on it at work, but it looks good enough now. Scoutersig 16:40, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Allo

Thx. Its good to be on here. You introduced me into this part of Wiki! Thx again!!

[edit] Greek template

Hey Peter, as a member of the Fraternity and Sorority project, please check out the proposed project template and leave your feedback. Scoutersig 17:10, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for rubbing it in. I hate you.

[edit] Greek Life Template 2.0

OK, I've added ratings and ranking to the proposed template for Fraternities and Sororities, with the requirements to be found on the appropriate page. We're waiting on a transparent picture; is there anything else to be done to this template? I'd like to give it another week or so before making it an official template. Just leave some comments on the template talk page for the template. —ScouterSig 02:05, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Pkscrest.gif)

Thanks for uploading Image:Pkscrest.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Sure thing, Sam, let me know if you ever need any anything, I'm always glad to offer help! Peace, delldot talk 22:44, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] SAK

Yeah, it's hard to make fraternity articles NPOV. Having websites that are NOT run by the fraternity itself is a start. Find ANYthing you can that isn't run by your chapter; I'd recomend even stuff from your headquarters, but... you ARE your headquarters! Perhaps if your IFC gives out information. —OverMyHead 03:13, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Good work!!!

Just dropping a line to say good work on keeping away the vandals that plague the Fraternity articles. They keep coming and coming, but you're pretty darn diligent reverting the vandalism quickly. Kepp up the good work! Jmlk17 05:44, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Sock Puppet

Hey man; I'm not an expert in the matter of sock puppets or anything, but from what I can see, Rjproie has only edits on the topic you guys are currently embroiled in. I'd suggest trying to contact Rjproie and get their thoughts on this, and see what can be done. Sorry. JṃŁЌ17 21:01, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

If you wish to begin an email conversation you may email me through the "email user" link. Natalie 21:34, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

Hello. My username is Rjproie, which also happens to be my actual name. Since I created this account, I'm pretty sure I'm not a sock puppet. How do we go about settling this issue? I mean, I can start making edits to other pages, or I can put personal information out there, etc. Suggestions? RJ 22:03, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

Do you have any ability to speak with me privately? Please email me @ pdwinfre@loyno.edu and we can solve this together.Samwisep86 23:07, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Not Sock

Samwise, I'm sure that sockpuppetry is not in your character, having worked with you at a Boy Scout camp all summer. But since there is no page that all of this debate is being focused on (isn't there normally a page for discussion?), I don't know how to give my input--other than here, in this way. Keep me informed, either through wikipedia or send me email. —ScouterSig 03:05, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

FOUND IT, HERE. I'll write there. —ScouterSig 03:06, 1 May 2007 (UTC)
P.S. Don't leave Wikipedia, friend. Look at the last thing someone posted on your page before this drama happened: [2]. SEE? You're doing a good thing. —ScouterSig 03:15, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Phi Kappa Psi

I was just curious as to what has happened with the exceedingly long issue on the Phi Kappa Psi membership thing. That wasn't very eloquent of me, but you understand. I thought there would be a mediation going on, but I haven't heard anything. I'd be more than willing to help out, but I hope I haven't missed anything. Jmlk17

[edit] Phi Kappa Psi vandalism

As much as I would like to have actions taken against 68.101.119.39 because the edits are obviously malicious vandalism, the user can't be blocked until he's continued to vandalize beyone a level 4 warning. Usually an admin will not and cannot do anything until the user has been warned sufficiently. The best we can do is just look out after the page and warn the user appropriately. If the person persists and does not heed the warnings, then something can be done. --† Ðysepsion † Speak your mind 03:02, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Bah!

I have asked the committee chairperson to restore the request.SlamDiego 05:04, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

It seems now that the request has been restored. —SlamDiego 05:21, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:Bobethall.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Bobethall.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 21:21, 14 July 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Nv8200p talk 21:21, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

It looks like the image is copyright by Loyola University and if the building still exists then the image would fail WP:NFCC#1 as a free image of the building could be created. The image would also fail WP:NFCC#8 as the image is not really significant or necessary to add to the understanding of the article. Your best bet is to find an image of the building licensed under the GFDL or Creative Commons and use it. That avoids all the non-free content criteria requirements. -Nv8200p talk 23:42, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Going Greek NPOV

Samwise, there has been some (well, very little) discussion on the talk page for Fraternities and sororities about that article being biased to North America (I agree). I was thinking that to address some concerns, it needed to have a section right before "Greek umbrella organizations" on why people went Greek. It should talk about: grades, philanthropy, social networking, cultural growth (especially for NPHC), and leadership training, at least. But I can't seem to Google any information that is provided at a level larger than one campus, so any statistics I find are not useable. Where do you suggest I look? I'll look for your reponse on my talk page. —ScouterSig 22:06, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
