[edit] Personal life
A native of Blackpool, Sam Aston is the youngest of nine children, having three older brothers and five older sisters, of which two brothers and one sister are also actors. He lives in Bacup, Rossendale and attends Haslingden High School.[2]
[edit] Career
Sam Aston's on-screen debut, at the age of five, was as an extra in Eddie Mountain, arranged through his agent.[2] In 2003 he appeared in an advertisement for Warburtons bread.[3] He acted in Where the Heart Is and The Bill, as Ryan Best. After securing an audition through his agent Carol Godby, Aston won the part of Chesney Brown on Coronation Street after four auditions.[4] He has since been on Stars in Their Eyes and portrayed Oliver Twist in the 19 November 2004 production of BBC's Children in Need.
Sam has said of Bruce Jones, who plays his on screen stepfather Les: "He's nice. He swears a lot though!".
Jennie McAlpine, who plays Sam's on-screen sister Fiz said that the scene in which Cilla arrived after having walked out on Chesney and Les, dragged Chesney and dog Schmichael down the street, and Chesney begged Les "Please let me stay with you, uncle Les" was "so emotional...his fantastic acting made everyone want to cry; it made me want to cry, and I'm supposed to know he's only acting, it's not real!"
In 2004, Sam was named Best Newcomer at the National Television Awards. When accepting the award, he thanked his agent Carol Godby, who runs the drama workshop where he trains still. The following year, Sam won Best Dramatic Performance for a Young Actor or Actress at the British Soap Awards.
In October 2005, Sam presented the Queen with a bouquet at a party to celebrate 50 years of ITV. The Queen told Sam she was a fan of Coronation Street, and asked if his real parents were as bad to him as his screen mum Cilla (played by Wendi Peters). He recently appeared as Horrid Henry at the Children's Party At The Palace, an all-star event to celebrate the Queen's 80th birthday.
Sam supports Burnley Football Club.[citation needed]
Sam was asked if he was the highest paid child star on Coronation Street Confidential, and replied "Oh, I wish!"
Sam used to be babysat by Hollyoaks star Chris Fountain. [1]
