Elliot Goldenthal composed the score for S.W.A.T., it is generally viewed as being another surprise, being that Goldenthal usually gravitates towards more "intellectual" and "arthouse" type movies and although he has done a few "commercial" action movie type scores in the past the decision to score "S.W.A.T." was nevertheless interesting;[1][2][3] and Goldenthal has developed a reputation for choosing unlikely projects, if anything, for the sheer fun of it.[4] in choosing to compose the score for "S.W.A.T." he, some have said, had played the "Media Ventures" (now known as Remote Control Productions) [5][6] composers at their own game, and won, creating an original, intense score.[7]

The point being that "Media Ventures" scores, in the industry and with score fans, have a reputation for churning out generic scores for, mostly, action thriller movies. Goldenthal, with his typically avante-garde approach, gave the score to "S.W.A.T." a weight that it would never have had.[8] It has been celebrated as another unique and exciting addition to his list of more "commercial" movie scores.[9]
