[edit] Successful?

Just wondering what the criteria for "successful" is, it's a bit POV... -- Lochaber 11:13, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Italics

Why is every single programme name in italics? It seems a bit of overkill. I thought that the point of italics is to make one or more pieces of text to stand out from the main body. When every thing is in italics, it seems pointless? Snappy56 (talk) 07:14, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

See Wikipedia:Manual of Style (titles)#Italics; "Italics should be used for [...] titles of [...] television series" --Geniac (talk) 14:15, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
But should this guideline apply to templates when the whole lot will be TV titles? It's fine if you have ordinary text then name of TV program in italics then more ordinary text but in all Template like this all you have is TV titles, so it all be in italics? I think this is overlooked in the Manual of Style. Snappy56 (talk) 07:52, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
How is application to templates overlooked in the guideline? It's a blanket statement that titles of television series are italicised. --Geniac (talk) 17:10, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
It is overlooked because it doesn't mention templates specifically. As I said before, italics are there to emphasise part of a text to make it stand out, when you have the whole text in italics, it becomes pointless. Snappy56 (talk) 03:49, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
It doesn't need to mention templates specifically, because "Italics should be used for titles of television series" is an all-inclusive statement. See also Wikipedia:Manual of Style (text formatting)#Main uses; "Use Italics for titles of the following: [...] Television series such as Gilligan's Island". On that same page, in the Emphasis section; "Italics are used for emphasis, but sparingly." --Geniac (talk) 17:08, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
"Italics are used for emphasis, but sparingly." is exactly my point, which part of having the entire template in italics is "sparingly"? Snappy56 (talk) 00:03, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

(de-indent) These italics are not being used sparingly because they are not being used for emphasis; they're being used because they're titles of television series. --Geniac (talk) 17:52, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

Now, you're just contradicting yourself. Anyway, there's a lack of common sense around this template. Its look poor but I no longer care, I'm outta here. Snappy56 (talk) 23:50, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
