Montchav (talk · contribs) - I've been editting Wikipedia for about 9 and a half months, and would refer to myself mostly as a sports editor. At first I wrote about skiing-related stuff, adding pages about skiers and ski resorts. I've been editting semi-regularly, with a gap in June, July and August where I was concentrating on real-life work, but over September I've racked up about 1700 edits according to this. I did a stint flicking through (the in-need-of-updating) Special:Ancientpages and updating loads of pages, many of which I got deleted, or merged into a bette already-existing article (e.g. [1] and [2] and [3]). Since then I've moved on to article on French towns (completing all the commune of Réunion, and of Guadeloupe, and am focussing a lot of time nowadays to the 2007 Rugby World Cup, creating dozens of articles on rugby players, which over the course of the competition are getting longer, and better referenced. This month I've dabbled in Recent changes patrol and categorisation, often randomly selecting a topic category one random example of a few dozen such edits, and have been clearing out a handful of non-notable British churches from the project - Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Bitterne United Reformed Church, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/St Anne's Roman Catholic Church, Streetly, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Bitterne Park Baptist Church (unsuccessful AFD), Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/City Life Church, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Avenue St Andrew's United Reformed Church. And yesterday I had my first DYK article on the main page - Blessed Thomas Holford Catholic College, which tied in with English sports. All (I think) of my page creations are found on my userpage - I have as a rough estimate 120 new pages to my name, and reckon I've got slightly less than that number deleted. Hence my edit count may be quite misleading for all the prodding and AFDing I've done. I am not sure how much my lack of "wiki-friends" i.e. users I communicate with often will be a hindrance.

Dear candidate, thank you for offering to serve Wikipedia as an administrator. It is recommended that you answer these optional questions to provide guidance for participants:

1. What admin work do you intend to take part in?
A: Mostly in quick vandalism revert - I've been doing bits of RC patrol, and the extra buttons would be useful - I tried using monobook to give myself extra buttons, but there were loads of extra ones that made editting quite slow, so I had the monobook deleted! A rollback button and deletion button are the main ones I'm after. The "protect" button I can't see myself using at this stage - maybe later
2. What are your best contributions to Wikipedia, and why?
A: I think my best one was not one I wrote, but one I sorted out, namely the pages stemming from Talk:Folk music in the United Kingdom. I had the article AFD'd, which failed, but I wasn't satisfied and eventually stripped all the data down, made the pages more navigable by templating lots, merging loads of pages and renaming a few pages to more corresponding names. On the writing side, I like my little rugby navboxes e.g. Template:Tonga Squad 2007 World Cup or Template:Romania Squad 2007 World Cup (the designs of which I clearly stole from somewhere else). Article-wise, Blessed Thomas Holford Catholic College because it about an area I wasn't very clued-up about, and Southampton Boat Show for similar reasons, and sportsmen like James Pritchard, Hernán Senillosa and Vicky Exley because they took a bit of time verifying facts and referencing.
3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or have other users caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
A: I've had no run-ins with users, but I got a bit stressed making the Sørensen page, as there are so many people called Sørensen that I had to find out about. I was tempted to do a half-assed job with the Sørensen page, but felt it needed to be done in full, which cost me more than an hour! In the future, I'll be sure to ask other, even more experienced editors their advice on polemic issues.

Weak support Not likely to abuse the tools. Assume from your answers that you intend to block vandals, not just rollback vandalism. In quickly looking through the lat 500 edits, I saw little vandal warning, one report to AIV and several rollbacks without any indication of warning. (It was a quick glance, I might have missed some.) You need more experience in RCPatrolling-- warning and reporting vandals. Most of your edits appear to be for the past month. I would suggest withdrawal at this point and trying again in three months. Assuming you continue at your current pace, the community will probably be more comfortable giving you the tools then.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Dlohcierekim (talk • contribs) at 15:55, 29 September 2007.
Something you might want to try is Lupin's Anti-Vandal Tool. It has different filters for recent patrolling (i.e. IP edits only, common vandal phrases) and it gives you the option to show the actual edits without having to hit the "diff" button. J-ſtanTalkContribs 18:28, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

  1. Oppose There seem to be some odd calls in your recent history ([4], [5], [6] for example) which make me think you don't understand policy. You seem to make an awful lot of reverts with no warnings on the relevant talk page, or comments like this in lieu of warnings. And, while it's not a reason to oppose in itself, I'm distinctly less than impressed by your hidden-text "jokes" ([7], [8]). — iridescent (talk to me!) 16:34, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

  2. Neutral at this point, though not because of the AfD's. I think that's a lesson quickly learned; Goodness knows I did. The humor isn't in and of itself an issue to me, though a little more decorum in suggesting the deletion of the work of others might be better. But clearly we have a good editor here, making solid contribution to the project. My biggest question when I read these is always, "do I trust this user with the tools". Since your stated intent with them is to do RC stuff, I'd like to see you with a little more correct experience there, including CSD/speedy tags. Vandal Fighter was recommended to you above, I'll also suggest installing a monobook and Twinkle too, because it makes everything standardized.
