Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This page has a backlog that requires the attention of experienced editors.

Please remove this notice when the backlog is cleared.

This symbolises a Wikipedia 0.7/release version nomination

Here, we determine which entries will compose the next offline Release Version, as part of the overall project of producing a fixed version of Wikipedia. This could be released on CD, DVD, paper, or some combination. Nominations here are ongoing, for whichever version is planned next, and nominations will be moved over to the next version page when it becomes available. Links that have a strikethrough are unavailable/defunct at present. Review has been slow up to this point, because of ongoing offline work on Wikipedia:Version 0.5, but things are speeding up now that it has been released (April 2007).

These entries will be selected based on importance and quality.

[edit] Eligibility for inclusion in the next Release Version

See the release criteria. Being a test release, the number of articles is expected to be fairly small.

Entries that are nominated will then be considered for inclusion on releases of Wikipedia the next offline release version of Wikipedia, as outlined below. Previous offline releases include:

If you nominate something you have worked on, note it as a self-nomination. You may wish to receive feedback from your WikiProject before nominating an article here, or you may wish to list it at Wikipedia:Peer review. If the article is of high quality, you may want to nominate it for Featured article status.

See also Wikipedia:Core topics - 1,000.

[edit] The approval process

The approval process is designed to be simple, as is appropriate for a test release. Approval will simply involve one member of the editorial team reviewing the article using the criteria outlined above. The reviewer must not have been a major contributor to the article. You may sign up as a reviewer for the team here. If there are quality objections raised, the nomination will be removed from this list and archived. Once the objections have been addressed, you are encouraged to renominate the article. Articles deemed by the team to fail only on the criterion of "importance" will be listed at the held nominations page, for consideration in later releases. Articles that are approved will automatically be submitted for nomination at Wikipedia 1.0 (still under development).

[edit] Disputes

If you disagree the decision to include or exclude an article, please use the disputes page.

[edit] For reviewers of currently nominated articles

  • Reviews should only be done by members of the review team (if you want to help sign up here).
  • The reviewer should not have been a significant contributor to the article under review.
  • Long-standing nominations are a higher priority than more recently added ones.

[edit] Pass

If the article under review meets the criteria for approval:

  1. Remove it from the list.
  2. Replace {{WP1.0|v0.7=nom|class=XX|category=YY|importance=ZZ}} with {{WP1.0|v0.7=pass|class=XX|category=YY|importance=ZZ}} on its talk page. See {{WP1.0}} for details about the parameters.
  3. List the article on Wikipedia:Release Version under the appropriate section.

[edit] Fail on importance only

If the article is of acceptable quality, but on a topic outside the scope of the latest release:
Go here and add the page to the list of nominations. Also, please vote on other articles.

[edit] Fail on quality

If the article fails to meet the criteria because of quality issues:

  1. Replace {{WP1.0|v0.7=nom|class=XX|category=YY|importance=ZZ}} with {{WP1.0|v0.7=fail|class=XX|category=YY|importance=ZZ}} on its talk page. See {{WP1.0}} for details about the parameters.
  2. Please leave a clear reason on the article's talk page.
  3. Remove the nomination from the list on this page.
Articles that are failed are automatically added to this category.

[edit] Nomination procedure

  1. Check to make sure it is not already on the previous release version.
  2. List it below at the bottom of the "Nominations", in the relevant section, by using "# {{article|NAME OF ARTICLE}} comment ~~~~"
  3. Place {{WP1.0|v0.7=nom}} on the talk page of the nominated article. If the talk page already includes the template, add the v0.7=nom parameter to the existing template.
  4. Wait for someone else to approve or remove your nomination.
