Article policies

Removed from article (probably temporarily)

The Stamoses are widely known as one of Hollywood's most sexually liberal couples. They often throw nude parties at their California home.

This is quite a strong statement and needs a cite, please. Thanks for your patence with me. Pete 23:44, 22 Nov 2003 (UTC)

It was my first inclination to remove it too, but then I thought maybe I'm not clued in enough to the Hollywood scene, or watch the Tonight Show sufficiently, or something. I think the key is "widely known". If this is something that is widely believed or even talked about, then it is something that should be in the article, even if it's not really true (as long as the article clearly states this). But if this is something that is not widely discussed, and it is not a big deal to people, then maybe it should not be included, even if it's true, because then it would just be trivia. --RoyV 06:55, 24 Nov 2003 (UTC)

Considering she is now divorced, maybe the article should be moved to "Rebecca Romijn" with "Rebecca Romijn-Stamos" as a redirect. MK2 04:26, 22 Jan 2005 (UTC)

  • Now that the divorce is official, and being as there have been no objections, I've gone ahead and moved the article to Rebecca Romijn. MK2 06:16, 4 Apr 2005 (UTC)
      • Sorry. I didn't know how that feature worked. I'll use it next time if I move another article. MK2 03:33, 6 Apr 2005 (UTC)
        • Great, thanks! Pcb21| Pete 07:09, 6 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Roman Catholic?

If you read the quoted source material, it is obvious that the interviewer describes himself as Catholic. Another editor stated Romjin as being Catholic, which is not supported by the interview transcript. (http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1589/is_2003_April_29/ai_102453293/pg_2)

[edit] Jerry O'Connell: Trainer?

Part of the article says that Rebecca "had recently been trained by Jerry O'Connell for her role in X-Men: The Last Stand"...what in the world does that mean? What special skills could O'Connell have imparted to Rebecca?? -- Jalabi99 06:29, 31 May 2006 (UTC)

Probably morphing from a Fatty (Jerry was once pretty rotund) into a sveltely shaped lass (Rebecca has been looking chunky in some photos).--64.79.15.17 19:33, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

hahahaha fatty. awsome.

[edit] Last Name

As far is I know, her last name is pronounced "Ro-main" /ɹoˈmeɪn/, not "Ro-mine" /ɹoˈmaɪn/. Both IMDb and the fansite in the external links agree with me. Is there any evidence that it's pronounced "Ro-mine"? SigmaEpsilonΣΕ 16:02, 31 May 2006 (UTC)

Should there be evidence? Being a dutchman myself I can say that her (dutch) name is pronounced as Ro-mine. There are a lot of dutch words that are almost the same as the english words. Romijn is pronounced as Ro-mine. Like the dutch word for wine is "wijn" and is pronounced as "wine".

Rubbish, "wijn" is pronounced "vain" /veɪn/. Sorry "dutchman".

Rubbish???? Are you telling me how to pronounce dutch?? That's the funniest thing I have ever heard. "Wijn" is pronounced like "vain" ??? Wow. That has to be in the dutch newspapers tomorrow. All those time everyone in the Netherlands is speaking the wrong way. LOL Maybe you should read this article on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutch_language#Dutch_as_a_foreign_language Off course, the words do no sound exactly the same but the words are close relatives. Another example? The dutch "ij" sounds the same as for example the german "ei" in "Einstein" or "Calvin Klein". Like the german word for wine is wein and again still sounds the same. But maybe I'm wrong and do you pronounce Einstein like "Einstaine"?

Rebecca Romijn herself would put you straight if you called her Ro-mine: "It's Romaine - like the lettuce" according to her. But I guess she does not have any say in this, you are going to tell her what her name is.

I haven't spoken Rebecca lately. Maybe you have?? Ask anyone in the netherlands how to pronounce her name and you will get Ro-mine. But I guess you know best, like all other stuburn americans, how to pronounce a dutch name or other foreign words. I won't even go into other dutch names like Van Gogh, Rembrandt, Paul Verhoeven, it's obvious americans don't care. You just make something up yourself and tell the rest of the worlds that's the right way.

she probably doesn't uvulate the "r" either, or pronounce "stamos" like a horny greek man. stupid bitch!

Look. There are numerous Americans with dutch names, which they pronounce in an american way. Thats fine by me, but its still a dutch name. And "Wijn" is not pronounced as "vain". 62.194.170.62 21:41, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

I agree with my fellow dutch collegues. The proper dutch pronounciation is "Ro-mine". I can understand that some dutch names (like Van Gogh) are hard to pronounce in english but I don't see why Romijn is pronounced Ro-main in the USA. The name isn't hard to pronounce at all.

I would highly doubt that, having a native Dutch father and Dutch-American mother they would pronounce their own name as Romain. It's probably Ro-Mine, but we can only be sure if someone hears her say it. And yes, Americans mispronounce about every foreign word, even lingerie and Moulin Rouge. Kweniston (talk) 10:54, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

In the standard Dutch of the Netherlands, wijn is pronounced neither like English wine nor like English vain, but (using IPA notation) [ʋɛin]. As a Dutch name, Romijn is pronounced neither as an English speaker would say Ro-Maine nor as an English speaker would say Ro-mine, but [ro:'mɛin]. The [r] in Romijn as a Dutch word is, by the way, an alveolar trill – it isn't "uvulated". Apparently Rebecca believes Romaine (like the lettuce) comes closest in English spelling, and, respectfully, I agree. I should say the passage, 'but the proper Dutch pronunciation is "Ro-mine"' is unhelpful and, since Rebecca is American, irrelevant. The article would be better without it. (Frans Fowler (talk) 23:39, 3 June 2008 (UTC) – a Dutch-speaking Englishman who calls it cos lettuce)

[edit] Stamos

"She married actor John Stamos on September 19, 1998. During her marriage, she used the name Rebecca Romijn-Stamos in both her personal and professional life. The couple announced their separation on April 12, 2004 and divorced on March 1, 2005.

She has since returned to using her maiden name professionally. In September 2005, Romijn and actor Jerry O'Connell announced their engagement."

It says she used Romijn-Stamos in both her personal and professional life then says she went back to her maiden name "professionally." So I'm just curious: was the person who wrote this implying in the second part that she's remaining with the Stamos personally or...? [edit] Baaaaaad Photo

That photo makes such a beautiful woman look like a drugged up crack whore. 58.110.138.64 (talk) 05:55, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

My thoughts exactly. You'd think that there'd be a few more flattering photos that could be used. Or perhaps the wiki powers that be don't like her and prefer this one? - 65.2.100.229 (talk) 08:09, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

I third this one. She is really hot as Mistique in Xmen, and she is married to Jerry O'Connell who is a good looking guy. But the pic here looks like a mug shot, and is totally unflattering. 68.2.35.62 (talk) 02:36, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Scoliosis

Apparently Rebecca Romijn is known to have scoliosis. Should this be added in? Smooth0707 (talk) 20:46, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
