It was my first inclination to remove it too, but then I thought maybe I'm not clued in enough to the Hollywood scene, or watch the Tonight Show sufficiently, or something. I think the key is "widely known". If this is something that is widely believed or even talked about, then it is something that should be in the article, even if it's not really true (as long as the article clearly states this). But if this is something that is not widely discussed, and it is not a big deal to people, then maybe it should not be included, even if it's true, because then it would just be trivia. --RoyV 06:55, 24 Nov 2003 (UTC)

Considering she is now divorced, maybe the article should be moved to "Rebecca Romijn" with "Rebecca Romijn-Stamos" as a redirect. MK2 04:26, 22 Jan 2005 (UTC)

As far is I know, her last name is pronounced "Ro-main" /ɹoˈmeɪn/, not "Ro-mine" /ɹoˈmaɪn/. Both IMDb and the fansite in the external links agree with me. Is there any evidence that it's pronounced "Ro-mine"? SigmaEpsilon → ΣΕ 16:02, 31 May 2006 (UTC)

Should there be evidence? Being a dutchman myself I can say that her (dutch) name is pronounced as Ro-mine. There are a lot of dutch words that are almost the same as the english words. Romijn is pronounced as Ro-mine. Like the dutch word for wine is "wijn" and is pronounced as "wine".

Another example? The dutch "ij" sounds the same as for example the german "ei" in "Einstein" or "Calvin Klein". Like the german word for wine is wein and again still sounds the same. But maybe I'm wrong and do you pronounce Einstein like "Einstaine"?

Rebecca Romijn herself would put you straight if you called her Ro-mine: "It's Romaine - like the lettuce" according to her. But I guess she does not have any say in this, you are going to tell her what her name is.

I haven't spoken Rebecca lately. Maybe you have?? Ask anyone in the netherlands how to pronounce her name and you will get Ro-mine. But I guess you know best, like all other stuburn americans, how to pronounce a dutch name or other foreign words. I won't even go into other dutch names like Van Gogh, Rembrandt, Paul Verhoeven, it's obvious americans don't care. You just make something up yourself and tell the rest of the worlds that's the right way.

I agree with my fellow dutch collegues. The proper dutch pronounciation is "Ro-mine". I can understand that some dutch names (like Van Gogh) are hard to pronounce in english but I don't see why Romijn is pronounced Ro-main in the USA. The name isn't hard to pronounce at all.

I would highly doubt that, having a native Dutch father and Dutch-American mother they would pronounce their own name as Romain. It's probably Ro-Mine, but we can only be sure if someone hears her say it. And yes, Americans mispronounce about every foreign word, even lingerie and Moulin Rouge. In the standard Dutch of the Netherlands, wijn is pronounced neither like English wine nor like English vain, but (using IPA notation) [ʋɛin]. As a Dutch name, Romijn is pronounced neither as an English speaker would say Ro-Maine nor as an English speaker would say Ro-mine, but [ro:'mɛin]. The [r] in Romijn as a Dutch word is, by the way, an alveolar trill – it isn't "uvulated". Apparently Rebecca believes Romaine (like the lettuce) comes closest in English spelling, and, respectfully, I agree. I should say the passage, 'but the proper Dutch pronunciation is "Ro-mine"' is unhelpful and, since Rebecca is American, irrelevant. The article would be better without it. It says she used Romijn-Stamos in both her personal and professional life then says she went back to her maiden name "professionally." So I'm just curious: was the person who wrote this implying in the second part that she's remaining with the Stamos personally or...?
