[edit] Sortkeys

Please see the appopriate guideline: peers are generally sorted by their peerage, not their surname per se. Choess 02:58, 19 September 2006 (UTC)

Stop. Now. Read the link I provided above, which says "In categories dealing with peerage, British peers are sorted by name of the title rather than surname, e.g. Robert Gascoyne-Cecil, 3rd Marquess of Salisbury is alphabetized under 'Salisbury', not 'Gascoyne-Cecil"' or 'Cecil'". Your changes to articles about peers *will* be reverted, and if you don't make some sort of response, you may be blocked. Choess 20:40, 19 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] License tagging for Image:City of Conway SC Seal .jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:City of Conway SC Seal .jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Jabiru Logo.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Jabiru Logo.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}. If you have not already done so, please also include the source of the image. In many cases this will be the website where you found it.

Please specify the copyright information and source on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Angr 15:43, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Einzelhaft Falco.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Einzelhaft Falco.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 05:47, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Titus Crow.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Titus Crow.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. [edit] Jonathan Ross image

Hi, Ray. I wanted to make sure you understood why I removed the image you added to the Jonathan Ross article. Wikipedia's policy on copyrighted (non-free) content doesn't allow copyrighted images of living people to be used as the main picture to identify them. There are a few exceptions, but since it's possible for someone to take a photo of Jonathan Ross at some public event and then release it with a free license, we can't just use the book cover to illustrate his article. The book cover could be used for an article about the book, since that would be covered by U.S. fair use law, but that's a different matter.

Incidentally, I've tagged the image on Commons for deletion, because Commons doesn't allow any copyrighted images at all. The image even has a watermark from Amazon noting that it's copyrighted, so there's no wiggle room. Sorry. —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 05:24, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Titus Crow.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Titus Crow.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 21:20, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Category:Past and present Freemasons

Hello. Sorry, but at the moment we can't have the above category here as a not dissimilar category (Category:Freemasons) has been previously deleted. I've deleted the above category, please could you remove it from the articles you've placed it in. Thanks, Craigy (talk) 14:12, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Seal_of_the_Lincolnville_South_Carolina.gif

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:Seal_of_the_Lincolnville_South_Carolina.gif. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. MECUtalk 21:31, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Possibly unfree Image:Karl_Ricther_Decorations.jpg

[edit] George Johnstone Hope

Hello Ray, I hope you can help me. I was copyediting the George Johnstone Hope page, and I noticed that the two images of him that you uploaded, Image:George Johnstone Hope.jpg, and Image:George Johnstone Hope Rear Admiral.jpg, dont give any information on the artist, date, etc. The image pages link to the National Maritime Museum web site, but I was unable to locate them there. Can you check and if possible add at least the artist and date, and also things like medium, size, etc. if available. Many thanks, Jonathan Oldenbuck (talk) 15:55, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

PS, same goes for Image:Edward Berry and Nelson.jpg, and any others. Thanks, Jonathan Oldenbuck (talk) 15:59, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
