I have personally been in contact with Bentley Historical Library by phone and email since January seeking images. Today, I got an email saying to go ahead and use their image bank at http://quod.lib.umich.edu/cgi/i/image/image-idx?c=bhl . No author information except "self-made", and no metadata. I find the uploader's claim of authorship specious because (a) the image looks like a professional/scanned photo, maybe from a postcard or calendar, and (b) the uploader, Sri 1988 (talk · contribs), has a long history of questionable image uploads, and may be heading for an indefinite block. szyslak 02:49, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

Nothing to state it's a work of the federal government, the website used as source states "All material on this site is either copyrighted by www.VirtualWall.org, Ltd. or used with permission." I can't find evidence of PD or GFDL, but I note the website says "Verbatim copying and distribution of site content permitted worldwide, without royalty, in any medium, provided this notice, and the copyright notice, are preserved." [2]. Mdwh (talk) 02:27, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

It only says that verbatim copying is permited, so conversely distributino of modified versions are not permited. To be considered free content there needs to be an explicit permission to modify and build upon the work, wich is clarly not the case here. --Sherool (talk) 21:05, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
