Philipp Degen (born February 15, 1983 in Hölstein) is a Swiss international footballer who plays for Liverpool F.C.[1][2]. He was signed from Borrusia Dortmund on a free transfer on the 1st July 2008[3], and plays right-back. Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez says he is "an offensive player with great energy and a winning mentality"[4].

Degen played for the Swiss team in the 2006 FIFA World Cup, until they were knocked out on penalties by Ukraine national football team in the last 16. Despite having been injured for much ot this season, Degen is part of the Swiss squad for the European Championships 2008[5].

He is half Dutch as his mother is from the Netherlands. His twin brother, David, is also a footballer, who plays for FC Basel, where Philipp also grew up as a player. He is married to his French wife, Camille.
