Nabil El Zhar (born 27 August 1986 in Alès, France) is a French-Moroccan football player currently playing for Liverpool F.C. Reserves. He can play wide or right behind the striker.
Although born in France, El Zhar opted to play internationally for the country of his parents, Morocco. However he has represented France at youth level. In the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship El Zhar played in this tournament,[1] and Morocco got to the semi-finals, where they were defeated 3-0 by Nigeria. Morocco ended the tournament in fourth place after a loss 2-1 to Brazil.
Nabil El Zhar currently plays for Liverpool and made his debut for Liverpool reserves against Sunderland on 28 September 2006. Following that match, he signed a contract with Liverpool and made his official debut against Newcastle in a reserves match on 3 October 2006. He scored his first goal, from the penalty spot, in a reserve 'mini-derby' against Everton on 10 October 2006.
He made his first Liverpool start in a Carling Cup tie against Cardiff City on 31 October 2007, in this game he scored his first goal for the club with an outstanding strike from 25 yards at the Kop end.
On the 26 March 2008, El Zhar scored for Morocco in a 4-1 away win against Belgium in his first international appearance.
