[edit] Early Life and Career
Hodes was born March 21, 1951. After graduating from The Collegiate School, a private school in New York City, he entered college and received his bachelor's degree from Dartmouth College in 1972 and his law degree from Boston College Law School in 1978. He worked under David Souter as Assistant Attorney General of New Hampshire from 1979 to 1982. During this term, he prosecuted the first white-collar crime case in New Hampshire to result in incarceration for the offenders. Hodes has been a performer and patron of the arts and entertainment community since his Dartmouth years; in the 1990s he was a leader in the creation of the Capitol Center for the Arts, and he serves on the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts.
Hodes ran as a Democrat for United States Congress in 2004 against incumbent Charlie Bass in New Hampshire's Second Congressional District. Hodes received 38% of the vote.
In the rematch held 7 November 2006, Hodes defeated Bass 53% to 46% in New Hampshire's 2006 Second Congressional district election[1]. Once his fundraising outstripped Bass's in the first and second quarters of 2006, and internal polling showed him virtually tied with Bass, Hodes was added to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee's Red to Blue program, aiding his campaign.
For the 2008 Presidential Elections, Rep. Paul Hodes has endorsed Sen. Barack Obama for President of the United States.
