O-6-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase, also known as MGMT, is a human gene. Methylation of the gene's promotor may play a significant role in carcinogenesis.
A 2005 study has showed that in patients with glioblastoma multiforme, a severe type of brain tumor, the methylation state of the MGMT gene determined whether the disease would be responsive to temozolomide; if the promotor was methylated temozolomide was effective.[1]
