[edit] Plot summary

While investigating a separate incident "in the 'hood", Greg discovers a malnourished young boy in the trash. Shots are fired, and Greg looks very nervous. Sofia runs off with police to chase the shooter. When Grissom reminds her she is a CSI, not a cop, she explains she was chasing the evidence and presents the shooter's gun. Nothing more of this case is covered in the episode. Later Hodges tries to goad Greg over his nervousness during the incident. Greg's dislike for firearms is touched on when he replies that there are plenty of cops present who have guns.

Meanwhile Catherine and her team try to discover why an inmate was left brain dead after an action by police. Warrick has a confrontation with one of the jail officers. Catherine reprimands him, reminding him that she is now his boss.
