[edit] Career

Nami auditioned for Sony Music Japan in 2003 when she was fourteen years old. Her first U.S. concert performance was opening for T.M.Revolution at the Pacific Media Expo 2004.

She graduated from high school in March 2007; her first Best (Greatest Hits) Album was released on November 29, 2006 to mark the event, and she started acting and stage performances in full speed after her graduation. The first event after her graduation was her first concert tour: Nami Tamaki Best Concert “My Graduation” on the 11th, 17th, 23rd and 31st of March 2007 at various places in Japan.

Nami has a relatively close relationship with the ACG (Anime, Comics, Game) industry, as she contributed to several ACG franchises with her music. Well-known examples of her contributions include those in the Gundam SEED and Gundam SEED Destiny franchise[1], the anime series D.Gray-man with Brightdown as the second opening song as well as Sanctuary, and one of the opening themes of the anime series Kiba.

[edit] Trivia

  • Her musical contributions in the Gundam SEED franchise led to a request from the producers to voice the character of Shiho Hahnenfuss, similar to the way in which Takanori Nishikawa (another major contributor to the Gundam SEED franchise's music) voicing the roles of Miguel Aiman (Gundam SEED) and Heine Westenfluss, and Vivian Hsu (part of Vivian or Kazuma, who sang the second opening of SEED, "Moment") voicing Aisha (Gundam SEED). However, Tamaki turned the offer down and as a result, while Shiho makes several appearances in Gundam SEED Destiny (as well as an appearance as the unseen pilot of the CGUE DEEP ARMS in a five-minute short featuring Lowe Guele), she never speaks. This is seen as beneficial for the character because Heine, Miguel and Aisha were all brutally killed shortly after their introduction, while Shiho lives through both series and is one of the most popular background characters in the SEED universe.
    • Perhaps as a remarkable coincidence, Tamaki was again reunited with Takanori Nishikawa and Rie Fu in the soundtracks for the anime series D.Gray-man, in which her song "Brightdown" replaced "Innocent Sorrow" by Takanori's band, abingdon boys school, as the opening theme.
  • Her song 大胆にいきましょう↑Heart & Soul↑ (Daitan ni Ikimashou) is a remake of the A*Teens song "A Perfect Match". It uses the same tune, but is otherwise original.
  • Two of her songs, "Realize" and "Get Wild", were made in collaboration with a student in the Class of 2009 at UC San Diego School of Medicine (UCSD), whom she became friends with as a child in Japan; one is an original track and the other is a modern version of a song from the popular 80's band, TM Network.
  • "High School Queen" is a cover version of "Teenage Superstar" by Dutch singer Kim-Lian. There are four more cover versions - one is sung by Mexican singer Belinda Peregrin ("Boba Niña Nice"), one by Portuguese band D'ZRT ("Para mim tanto me faz"), one by Czech singer Ewa Farna and one by Spanish group Efecto Mariposa, entitled "Que mas da".
  • Tamaki has performed the theme song "Fortune" for the PS2 RPG "Radiata Stories". She also represents as a character and can be recruited to join the player's party.
  • Her promotional video for Daitan ni Ikimashou -Heart & Soul- was choreographed by Emmy-nominated choreographer Travis Payne. Payne appears and speaks at the beginning and end of the video, and is seen in rehearsal scenes included in the video.
  • In her fifteenth single, "Winter Ballades", the song "winter fall" is a re-arranged version of the same-titled cover song in L'Arc~en~Ciel's ninth single which was released in 1998.
