HAZMAT Class 1 Explosives

Hello, Mushroom. According to the deletion logs, you deleted the article HAZMAT Class 1 Explosives under CSD G12 for blatant copyvio a little over a week ago. I just came across a whole series of similar articles, and tagged them for the same, until I noticed that the page I was citing as the source states that the content of the article(s) are in fact "excerpts from the Code of Federal Regulations Title 49 (49CFR) and the "Emergency Response Guidebook""... which would mean that as a government work, it's in the public domain. I have a sneaking suspicion this is the case with the article you deleted as well, so would respectfully ask that it be restored, as it does not qualify for deletion under G12. I may, at some point in the near future, nominate the collective pages for deletion through AfD if they don't get cleaned up, but I'd much like to be able to give the author a chance to do so. I'll send him an email if you agree to this request to let him know of the situation - hopefully he'll come back to work on things. Thanks for your time, and happy editing as always. Deletion detail request

Hi, you deleted Image:YasuoFukuda.jpg. When it was up, it had a link to some sites on the domain the picture was from that were purported to allow use of the photo. Anyway, the site was in Japanese, but do you know what the details were, and under what logic it was deleted? I didn't have the proper encodings installed at the computer i was at earlier in the day so I haven't had a chance to check the statement either, but could you provide me the text of the rational from the deleted image? Complaint About Entire Programming Language Listing Deleted

Hi Mushroom: You flagged my entire programming language platform as being spam. Ref: Visual DataFlex I expect that you would delete anything objectionable IN the listing, but leave the important platform information there. I challenge you to google for Visual DataFlex. This is a valid programming language which SUPERCEDED "DataFlex for DOS". I am a programmer in this language, and I take personal offense at you deleting the ENTIRE LANGUAGE from wikopedia. Hena, again

Hi, can you make sense of this discussion regarding use of the "hena" (erhu) by Chthonic (band), at http://64.233.167.104/search?q=cache:8cR29azZx68J:s8.invisionfree.com/Chthonic/ar/t117.htm+erhu+hena&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=3&gl=us? Here is the interesting line:
In Taiwanese, its popular name is 弦仔 pronounced in "han"(弦)"na"(仔) (Stress on "na", but it's just a kind of modal word). Han(弦) means string.
This seems to be true. Google finds the word 弦仔 on 707 websites, almost all of them Taiwanese, so I guess it is only used in Taiwan. Here's what I found until now:
  • The article about Taiwanese opera on the Chinese Wikipedia uses the word:
傳統上以胡琴類樂器領奏，領奏琴師稱為「主弦」、「頭手弦仔」、「頭手」，傳統上有「4大件」：殼子弦、大廣弦、月琴、台灣品仔（台灣笛）和「3大件」：六角弦、台灣三弦、洞簫的說法。
  • This website is selling a box set of erhu music called 戀戀弦琴弦仔套裝 in Taiwanese, and Formosa Mood on Erhu in English.
椰胡的構造與材料簡單且容易取得(在那個年代)。除了硬木做成的軸身及調弦用的「絞止(ká-chí-a)」，再就是產生共鳴的半個椰子殼與檜木薄片，以及兩條絲弦。挨弦仔(e-hiân-a)的部分則是由箭竹與一束馬尾巴(約15~20條)構成。在馬尾巴及弦及椰子殼接觸之處，多塗抹松膠已增加澀度，聲音才會清楚。
  • Another instrument's name has the same characters in it: it is called 鐵弦仔 or 鼓吹弦 (T'ie-hsien zai), and it is described here and here.

Hello,

I was about to edit the page on Jim Fyffe (knowing that it needed work) only to discover that it has been deleted. Having read the original article, I fully understand why it was deleted. This is just to let you know that I will be recreating the article on Jim Fyffe and resubmitting it, along with sources. Sorry about that. I moved a lot of pages in the last few days and I tried to fix all the double redirects, but I guess I missed some of them. Luckily there are at least three active bots (User:Alexbot, User:RussBot and User:Scepbot) that do just that. Mushroom (Talk) 13:58, 16 October 2007 (UTC)
I realise about the bots, it was only seeing one of them fix one of the redirects that alerted me to the move in the first place - it does seem that it can take them a while to get round to fixing all the redirects related to a single page (presumably down to whatever list they work off). Hiren's Boot CD

I do not feel that Hiren's Boot CD was blatent advertising. I do feel that after the reintroduction of that whole list it became like an advertisement, but I do not feel that the smaller revisions were adverstising. Nightwish Genre Correction

Hello. I wasn't sure how to leave a message so I left it here. Nightwish isn't symphonic power metal if you actually ever listened to their music and lyrics. Lyrics are similar to Within Temptation's. Here's a source to justify Nightwish's genres: http://rockdetector.com/artist,77642.sm

Atheism

atheism = "the belief that God does not exist" <-- There are people who do not believe in God and who self-label as agnostic, not atheist. You might not make this distinction, but other people do. For the source cited in the Watson article, it is best to just report what Watson said rather than make assumptions about how to label Watson. I view your assumptions and use of the label "atheist" to constitute original research. Why not cite a source in which Watson self-identifies as atheist? --JWSchmidt 05:23, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

Editors don't need any credentials, since any article should be properly referenced to ensure verifiability. Unsourced or poorly sourced information is usually removed. To avoid plagiarism, there are many editors and administrators who constantly monitor new additions and remove any copyrighted content or delete infringing articles. Pro Anima article removal

Hi,

May I ask you if what caused the deletion of Pro Anima related article you made today? If you have never heard about this ensemble this still does not mean that it should not be listed in Wikipedia! Believe that if Melodiya (monopolist grammophone company in former USSR) have released thier recordings, this means quiet a lot! And previously to submit the article I have added the reference to List of early music ensembles where you can find many other links to pages that remain empty until now, probably because of administrators like you! Please do NOT delete any article that do NOT fall under your area of interests, but let it to other admins specialized in Classical Music and moreover in Medieval Music, I think they should know much more about really outstanding interpreters on Early Music like Pro Anima.

I have moved the article to Hortus Musicus (uppercase "m"), so now Hortus musicus (lowercase "m") has automatically become a redirect to it. Juan Pablo Aldasoro's webpage deletion

Hi Mushroom: My name is Constantino Carlos Reyes Aldasoro, my grandfather, Juan Pablo Aldasoro was a pioneer of aviation, he started flying in 1909 and was the first man to fly over the statue of liberty, I think this is of interest for the wikipedia. Hi there - you appear to have speedy deleted a page I was actively working on earlier with the comment "(CSD A7), was an article about a band, singer, musician, or musical ensemble that didn't assert the importance or significance of the subject.. using TW"

Could I ask that you explain further the reasoning behind this? The article in question was verifiable, and was about a person who is not just a musician but also a publication editor and weekly columist for the new statesman (so as a person is probably more notable than say a band like the pipettes, who have their own personal pages as well as a band page and have only released one album). If you had looked at the edit history, you'd have seen that I had already done several updates to the page since I created it and as such it was a work in progress. Indeed, I was attempting to save more information into the page when it told me that it was deleted.

I would also expect that as an administrator you would have the courtesy to inform me, as the creator of the page, that you were considering deleting it, or perhaps actually giving helpful advice on how to improve the article to your required standard. C2r (talk) 18:24, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

delete question

Hey, you deleted my recent addition of P.D.Q. Bach and Peter Schickele: The Jekyll and Hyde Tour due to copyright infringement. While I cannot disagree with this reason, I modelled this page after currently existing pages on other PDQ Bach albums, all of which could be argued also contain copyrighted information. It's bacically nothing but a list of artists and the tracks of the album. Please reconsider. Thanks. (I know it's my first new page, but I need to start someplace..) yes. I am writing the article about her. She is ranked 1st in the country in BJJ in her weight class/division for amateur tournaments, has a sponsor, has been interviewed by several people. Crescent Sail Yacht Club

Hi..first try at a wiki so all help appreciated. You speedy deleted page on its first day because it did not assert its importance or significance. There are several of the yacht clubs on Lake Saint Clair (North America) with wikipedia pages, and I was actually trying to make the CSYC page more relevant by adding navigational notes. Halton High School

Hello. I referred several schools to CSD as there is no context or content. I fail to understand how an address of a school constitute an article on wikipedia ? Other articles connected to it have at least some further information about the subject. I feel schools do have place on wikipedia, and always vote to keep on afd if there is at least some content. Hello. An article containing the sentence:
Halton High School is a secondary school in Barnfield Avenue, Murdishaw, Runcorn, Cheshire, England.
Has context, since it tells you exactly what the subject is and where it is. If it said something like "My school is very big and it has 100 students", then it would lack context, because it would be very difficult to understand which school the author is referring to. It has also enough content to qualify as a stub (and in fact it is tagged as {{school-stub}}), since it is not just a rephrasing of the title, attempt to correspond, or external link. It doesn't tell you if or why it is notable, but that's another matter.
For instance, an article saying "The Gerbrandy Tower is a tower in the Netherlands" has very little content, but enough to be a stub, and it has also enough context. You can't tell if the tower is notable, but you shouldn't tag it as A1 or A3. You should {{prod}} it as "possibly non-notable tower" or take it to AfD, so that its notability can be assessed. Hi, Wikipedia has notability guideline for organizations which states:
"A company, corporation, organization, team, religion, group, product, or service is notable if it has been the subject of coverage in secondary sources. Such sources must be reliable, and independent of the subject. The depth of coverage of the subject by the source must be considered. If the depth of coverage is not substantial, then multiple independent sources should be cited to establish notability. Hi Mushroom, You deleted Joan Curran - a page I prompted my mother to draft since there was a red link to her under Chaff (radar countermeasure). She is notable for this invention, among the many other achievements that led to her being granted a knighthood so there's a pretty good argument that she is significant! In fact, she's even referred to in Dan Brown's novel "Deception Point" as well as R.V. Jones history of radar countermeasures "Most Secret War".

Deletion of Psychiatric Advance Directives

Hello, I made an entry for Psychiatric Advance Directives this morning. I wrote every single word in the entry between 8am-10am EST and spent another several hours making sure the text did not copy anything on the web or that I or any one else has published on the topic. These are important new laws that will affect 15-20 million Americans with mental disorders who require psychiatric care and it is critical that there be information about this on Wikipedia. Got a question for you. First though, sorry about that dodgy speedy on the football player. Can't even remember his name but you were right he is notable. I apologised to the user who created the article. Anyhow! My question is about naming of articles in English Wikipedia. I just marked Libčice nad Vltavou as Patrolled. I'm wondering if articles on English Wiki need to have English spelling in their titles? I've noticed a few articles lately with odd looking characters in the headings. Is there a policy on this? No problem about the player, it can happen :) The naming convention for geographical names is here: WP:NCGN. It says:
When a widely accepted English name, in a modern context, exists for a place, we should use it. This often will be a local name, or one of them; but not always. If the place does not exist anymore, or the article deals only with a place in a period when it held a different name, the widely accepted historical English name should be used. If neither of these English names exist, the modern official name, in articles dealing with the present, or the modern local historical name, in articles dealing with a specific period, should be used.
There doesn't seem to be a widely used English name for Libčice nad Vltavou, so the title is correct. For other specific naming conventions, look at WP:NAME. Mushroom (Talk) 17:43, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

I need some guidance, Mushroom, and I come to you because you have worked on the page in question (for Marketwire). I am a former reporter and when investigating your content guidelines, I asked guidance of a Wikipedia administrator and I took a look at what others in my industry write (specifically PR Newswire and Business Wire). I'm puzzled, however, because someone names "DBarefoot" keeps changing the content I write...even though what I write is not anything more than who we are, what we do, and how we do it...AND is in the same writing style as the other top-tier newswires.

re: Flags

Hello. After reading the guidelines, I see that it is inappropriate to have the flags for the "born" or "died" section of a person's infobox. However, I think it IS appropriate on band pages, because it refers to the band's origins, not a single person's nationality. Very often, the country of origin for a band is a major part of their identity, and I believe that having the flag there shows that. And there is nothing in the policy forbidding that. No worries; the guidelines were developed because there were quite a few stubby articles of projects lingering in development hell with no sign of movement. By being in production, it's a near certainty that a product will result, generating a more substantial article with production, reception, and what-have-you. Before that point, though, anything can interfere -- scripting issues, budget issues, and especially the ongoing writers' strike. We try to merge articles to the source materials' articles depending on the amount of substance. Director Neil Marshall had stubby articles on all his announced projects, but he's certainly not making them all at once. —Erik (talk • contrib) - 16:19, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

I've set up Masaharu Homma#Film adaptation; perhaps a redirect can be created later. If you come across similar articles, you can check IMDb to see its status. If it says development or pre-production, it's not quite there yet. If it says filming, post-production, or completed, then obviously, it's OK. Use IMDb lightly, though... their updates aren't always accurate. For State of Play (film) (redirects at the moment), IMDb previously had it listed as "Filming" when it never actually began (due to Brad Pitt dropping out). Links normally to be avoided, point 2:
Any site that misleads the reader by use of factually inaccurate material or unverifiable research. See Reliable sources for explanations of the terms "factually inaccurate material" or "unverifiable research".

I have done some research on Garry Sharpe-Young, the editor of the website, and he seems to be a notable expert in the field (he has also published some books), so I have changed my mind. I was wrong and I apologize, but please consider that it is not easy to assess the notability and/or reliability of a website, and it is not possible to have a community discussion on all the external links (most of them spam) that are added to Wikipedia everyday. Anyway, if you check my edits you will see that I was not systematically removing those links: I was removing some different ones whose unreliability is certain and I found the Rockdetector ones along the way. I noticed that on Buizel, you removed what you said were unreliable and unofficial websites. In doing so, you removed links to Bulbapedia and Psypokes, but you left in Serebii.net. I left it because it was an instance of the {{Serebiidex}} template. I have nominated the template for deletion, and when it is deleted all its instances will (hopefully) automatically be removed by bots. Metal reviews

The album reviews listed are being used to establish the artists' notability according to WP:MUSIC point 1. They constitute a published source of which the band is a primary subject, and I have no intention of seeing them removed from the article. Chubbles (talk) 05:11, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

They violate WP:RS and especially WP:SPS. Unless you prove that they are "produced by an established expert on the topic of the article whose work in the relevant field has previously been published by reliable third-party publications", they can't be used on Wikipedia. WP:MUSIC clearly states that the sources must be reliable. And even if it didn't, WP:SPS is an official policy; WP:MUSIC is just a guideline. Mushroom (Talk) 05:13, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
WP:RS is a guideline whose subject matter, for this purpose, basically defaults to WP:SPS. Which reads as follows:

Material from self-published and questionable sources may be used as sources in articles about themselves, so long as:

  • it is relevant to their notability;

  • it does not involve claims about third parties;
  • it does not involve claims about events not directly related to the subject;
  • there is no reasonable doubt as to who wrote it;
  • the article is not based primarily on such sources.

Please wait: those are the criteria for use "in articles about themselves". The subjects of Ablaze My Sorrow and NonExist are bands, not websites. And that's WP:SELFPUB, not WP:SPS. WP:SPS states:
Anyone can create a website or pay to have a book published, then claim to be an expert in a certain field. For that reason, self-published books, personal websites, and blogs are largely not acceptable as sources.
Self-published material may, in some circumstances, be acceptable when produced by an established expert on the topic of the article whose work in the relevant field has previously been published by reliable third-party publications. However, caution should be exercised when using such sources: if the information in question is really worth reporting, someone else is likely to have done so.
Self-published sources should never be used as third-party sources about living persons, even if the author is a well-known professional researcher or writer; see WP:BLP#Reliable sources.

I checked the sites of all the other reviews in Ablaze My Sorrow. I removed SSMT because they only have three contributors; the others have clearinghouses, most have physical addresses; one even publishes a paper magazine. I hate to think what havoc you've wreaked on pages that aren't on my watchlist; are you really removing Rockdetector, one of the best sources for metal out there? Four quick answers:
  1. Having ten or fifteen writers does not make a website reliable: SSMT, novometal.com, deadtide.com and powermetal.de are certainly not reliable, and I think metal.de isn't as well. All of them are self-published, none have offices, an organization or stuff like that, and the physical addresses are those of the editors. None of them are edited by someone who has published a book on the subject. Anyone with no experience in the field could start a website like those, write a few reviews and I don't think it would qualify as a reliable source for an encyclopedia. And they are also not notable, as per WP:WEB, so if you tried to create an article about them it would soon get deleted.
  2. I am not removing Rockdetector. I removed just a few links to it (5 or 6 maybe), before discovering it was a reliable source. I explained it in the discussion above.
  3. If you accuse me of creating havoc for a few wrong link removals, I could say you are undermining the credibility of Wikipedia by using unreliable sources. But what's the point? Actually I think you are improving Wikipedia by creating good articles and stubs; I just disagree on your use of those sources.
  4. I would like to go on with this discussion but I am definitely too wikistressed, so I'm going on wikibreak right now. This is my last edit this week (or maybe this month). Bye.

Yes, of course. All contributions made after the ban are deleted anyway, regardless of their usefulness (see WP:BAN). User:Melsaran/UBX/Latin plurals was created before the ban, but I deleted it anyway because it was in the user's space: all user subpages are generally deleted some time after the ban. Hello, I'm a newer user here and I hope you can help me since I saw you are an administrator and that you made some edits to the Michael Shermer Article. Maybe you are familiar with Michael Shermer or know of the editor who can help me? The Mark Bellinghaus Article is one that I was working on and its nominated for deletion. Michael Shermer had written about Mark Bellinghaus' investigative work on his skeptic online magazine (referenced on the Bellinghaus article), and Mark Bellinghaus's achievements have also been reported in the international press for his work that he's done with debunking fraud. Is there someone from the Michael Shermer article that can help to validate and review the Mark Bellinghaus article? It would be a shame for the Bellinghaus article to be deleted as he does have notability.
