[edit] Myself
I'm a 19 year old high school student in Canada. I'm fascinated by space, the environment, politics, and other similar subjects. I guess you could say that I have many varied interests, and I'm not afraid to enjoy the same things at 19 as I did at 9. My policy is that if something gave you enjoyment as a child, then why give it up?
I really enjoy travelling, and experiencing new places; so far I've been to nine different countries (for varying lengths of time). They are: Canada, England, Scotland, The United States, The Netherlands, Greece, France (as part of the Vimy Ridge 90th anniversary), Belgium, and Wales.
My entire family (save my younger sister) was born in England, and I am the first Canadian-born in my family. Despite this, for some strange reason I have a British accent. Because my parents were English, I have a dual nationality of Canadian and British. I'm proud of my heritage, but not of my current federal government.

[edit] Username
As I'm sure you've all noticed, my username on here is MelicansMatkin. Why did I choose this? My nickname, that everybody calls me by, is "Matkin" - a combination of my first name (Matthew) and my last name. At the time that I created this account, I was dating a girl called Melissa. I gave her the nickname "Melican". Don't ask why. Anyways, the inside joke for me when I created this account was that, since I was Melissa's boyfriend, I was "Melican's Matkin", or as I decided to write it, MelicansMatkin. If you're curious about how to pronounce my username, "Melican" rhymes with "pelican", and Matkin can be broken down to "mat" and "kin". Simple, eh?
Wikipedia is the only website where I go under the username "MelicansMatkin". Although I am no longer dating her, and so am no longer "Melican's Matkin", I prefer not to change my username. With it I have carved out an identity for myself on here, and there is no need or desire for a change to occur. On other websites (mostly forums), I go under the username Matkin22. Before I got the nickname Matkin, my typical username was Napkin, an older nickname. Before even that nickname, I was frequently known as Matiqua, although I only have that username on one website now.

[edit] Favourites
- Music: Rock
- Band: It'll always be U2
- Song: It used to be "City of Blinding Lights", no questions asked, but recently I've developed really soft spots for "Mothers of the Disappeared", "So Cruel", "'Last Night on Earth"', and "Walk On".
- Non-U2 Song: There are lots of songs that I like, but it's difficult to pick a favourite. Hmmm...
- Food: Pizza, Steak, or Cretian Spaghetti Bolognese.
- Anime: A toss-up between Pokemon or Chobits
- Anime Character: Either Haruka/May (I'm comfortable using the English or Japanese names) from Pokemon, or Chi from Chobits.
- Colour: Red
- Sport: Formula One, and Ice Hockey
- NHL team: Toronto Maple Leafs (I feel their pain)
- Mythical figure: Orion
I'm also a fan of the musicals Les Mis and We Will Rock You; in person, I've seen the first once (at the Centre in the Square in Kitchener), and the latter twice (at the Canon Theatre in Toronto).
If there's anything more that you'd like to know about me, just check out my userboxes - I'm sure that your question is answered in there somewhere, ;P. If you can't find anything in there, just drop me a line on my talk page and I'll get back to you.

[edit] On Wikipedia
I'm of the opinion that Wikipedia is exactly as it is described - an online encyclopedia that anyone can edit. I am also of the opinion that if I see any edits that I think should be made, they will be edited. Articles are not meant to be built up and kept as a perpetual unchanging entity after all. Two things I can't stand, though, are vandalism and/or sock-puppetry. If I see any vandalism, I will revert it straight away (kudos to everyone in the Counter-Vandalism Unit!).
I used to watch the Recent changes - as I've said I really dislike vandalism, and I feel that helping to protect pages, even those that aren't among my favourites to read, can only help Wikipedia. Unfortunately I have slacked off from this as of late, and at the moment I only really revert vandalism made to pages on my watchlist.
I'm always happy to help out new users when I can, whether its with the format used on Wikipedia or a more complex issue. I'm generally a friendly person, so if you have any questions or comments for me, please don't hesitate to ask! I try to make my talk page as concise as possible by transferring comments I make on other users talk pages to my own, and vice versa. I also (generally) prefer comments on my talk page to not be edited or taken out; I feel that it is important for the original context of the comments to be present in some shape or form, and abusive comments do not usually bother me (although I'll normally remove random nonsense). I go into more detail on this on my actual talk page.
I'm pretty busy with school during the week, and with work on the weekends, so my time on here is generally limited; in the last couple of months I've tried to focus on creating screenshots for the many U2 song articles - "The Hands That Built America" and "Electrical Storm" were my first two efforts.

[edit] Contributions
-
Here's a short list of some pages that I have made major contributions to in the past, present and (hopefully) the future. I am particularily proud of my work on these pages, whether it's because I created them, rewrote them, added images to them, or just spent the time to remove a ton of vandalism from them. The full list is located in the above link.
[edit] WikiProject's I am a part of
I'm not involved in many WikiProjects, but I do try to focus some of my time on articles that fall under the below WikiProjects.
[edit] Barnstars
I have been fortunate enough to be awarded the following barnstars; thanks to everyone who has given me one. It shows that I must be doing something right on here, and each one means a lot to me. Thank you.

The Random Acts of Kindness Barnstar |
| For helping me out against such rude behavior, I award this Barnstar to Matkin 'buku! Sukecchi (talk) 01:18, 20 December 2007 (UTC) |

The Barnstar of Diligence |
| I award you this Barnstar for your tireless efforts maintaining and verifying so many U2 articles – particularly all those songs. It’s not gone unnoticed and it makes a huge difference – I don’t have to bother opening to check when I see your name against those articles in my watch list. "Noice" --Merbabu (talk) 05:00, 11 February 2008 (UTC) |
[edit] The Future
I am going to keep working on this userpage, as well as adding images to the U2 song pages, and some other test edits. I know that I have a ton of userboxes but hey, at least the actual text on this page is longer than the userboxes now! I'm also planning on creating some more U2 tribute albums pages in the near future. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to converse with me on my talk page - I welcome any and all discussion on any edits/reverts/uploads I have made, as well as just general conversation :)
