The result of the debate was Delete. Having reviewed the arguments provided, it is clear rough consensus lies with a "Delete" closure. The possibility of a "task-force" closure was something I considered as an alternative to deletion, as well as a simple redirect to Wikipedia:WikiProject Ice Hockey, but taking into account the consensus-by-numbers below and the inactivity on the project, I concluded delete. [edit] Wikipedia:WikiProject National Hockey League
This wikiproject appears to be unused as most people who work on this type of article are part of Wikipedia:WikiProject Ice Hockey since the majority of ice hockey articles involve the NHL in one way or another. If someone wanted to specialize in National Hockey League articles moreso than the general ice hockey then a task force at the other project would better serve that purpose. - Comment - "unused" is a bit of an overstatement. It doesn't look particularly active but there are edits to the main and talk pages in Sept and Oct (including by John Carter who doesn't usually hesitate to nominate an {{inactive}} project). Yes Wikipedia:WikiProject Ice Hockey is much more active. I also note that the nominator suggests that Project as being the more appropriate project, but fails to note membership in that project, not that that's necessarily a problem but bias should be disclosed, especially when asking the community to kill a competing project.--Doug.(talk • contribs) 05:54, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
- Comment I don't even consider this a competing project so its not something I would have thought to disclose, though I would think one would assume I was a member of the project considering I knew about its more appropriateness. I don't think unused is an overstatement at all. Considering of the 6 members almost all of them have less than 50 edits in their entire existance on wikipedia and hardly any of them have anything to do with hockey. I think the most likely explanation for this project is that someone created it not necessarily realizing there was an ice hockey project already. It wasn't even my idea to kill this project, it was someone else who came to our project months ago asking if it should be deleted and I decided to wait and see if it would actually be used. And its not that I consider our project the more appropriate project. I just think a task force inside our project would be the better way to go since most of our editors already focus on the National Hockey League as it is. --Djsasso (talk) 05:59, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
- Delete - Considered trying to reactivate the project some months ago, as noted above, but the existing Ice Hockey project seems to basically cover the existing information. Would have no reservations about a merger as a task force of the Ice hockey project if that were preferred, however. John Carter (talk) 16:06, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
- Delete - as an inactive, and redundant project. Flibirigit (talk) 22:30, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
- Delete - Beyond that, as their template shows, there is a strong risk of working at cross purposes. One of the points of WikiProjects is standardization of templates, guidelines and approaches. Isn't one of our goals on Wikipedia to respect consensus (or else work to change it)? We should be working within existing projects rather than splintering off as whim takes us, provoking competition that can only lead to edit wars. RGTraynor 23:07, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
- Merge as task force or Delete - and I did not intend to suggest bad faith by User:Djsasso, just felt those were important observations to have up front. --Doug.(talk • contribs) 03:06, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
- Delete Redundant project since WP:HOCKEY is more established, has more users, and is much more active, just check the talk page and all the activity there the last few months. I don't see the other project as a rival, I think someone created it without knowledge of an existing project covering the subject. --Krm500 (talk) 05:19, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
- Merge as taskforce, it should probably be a taskforce. 132.205.99.122 (talk) 22:33, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
Delete There already is a WikiProject for Ice Hockey and they take all kinds of NHL articles. This WikiProject is not needed. Tavix (talk) 22:30, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
