Miss World Sweden
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Miss World Sweden Inc.® is a competition for Swedish females, qualifying the winner to the global contest, Miss World. The contest was sponsored from 1949-1999 partly by the magazine Vecko-Revyn. The title was handed out to the 1st Runner-Up in the Miss Sweden pageant, but lost the franchise in 2003. Since then, the competition is sponsored by Studio Fashion Inc and the marketing is made by the women's magazine Hänt Extra.
The recruitment process begins in April each year and finishes in the last week of July. The Miss World Sweden delegation is on tour across the country and introduces finalists in the biggest cities of Sweden. The selected delegates are qualified to the final that is always held in the country's most famous nightclub, Café Opera, located in an opera house from 1787 in Stockholm. Since the first edition of the contest in 1951 many of the contestants have gone on to notable careers in television and film.
The current titleholder, Annie Oliv will crown the new winner on June 12, 2008, that will compete in the 58th Miss World edition, on October 4th, held in Kiev, Ukraine.
[edit] Miss World Sweden
The Miss World Sweden Organization was created in 2003 in response to Sweden's recent lack of interest at the Miss World pageant. It is a branch from the late Miss Sweden pageant.
Sweden has the longest unbroken participation at the Miss World pageant, having appeared every year since the first edition in 1951.
