[edit] reason Mike's site went down
Mike's site went down because Web traffic exceeded bandwidth limitations. Unfortunately, this happened after Matt extended thanks from the family for all of the well wishes that had been posted. I'm pretty sure it will be up again in a week or so after things settle down and the family can deal with everything. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Donssword (talk • contribs)
[edit] Images
That really should be an image of his creator-owned Tellos at the top right. It's only fitting to have his most notable self-created work there.
That would also allow the Flash cover to be moved to the Flash section and to the right, because images are not supposed to look off the page, according to basic rules of layout and design. --69.22.254.111 13:58, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
- Took care of your concern about the layout, but article could still use a Tellos picture and one of Wieringo. Ichormosquito 08:16, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Aug. 20 edits
I restored the original image since the replacement was both oversized, resulting in a particularly "bowling lane layout," and since the subjects were looking off the page, which is basic bad graphic design. And the biblio is for books about Wieringo. We don't list every reprint collection an artist has ever appeared in -- the Jack Kirby or Joe Sinnot or Neal Adams lists, for instance, would be endless. And listing the reprint collections smacks of promotion for them. -- 69.22.254.111 15:17, 20 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Picture added and college education corrected
I added Mike's self-portrait. The image was released by Mike's brother, Matt, for use on Mike's Wiki page.
I also fixed the college education reference from the Richmond Comix interview: Mike was never accepted into the Illustration tract of Communication Art & Design at VCU, so he entered Fashion Illustration, in the Fashion Department, where he studied with a number of professors including Donald Early. Donald closely mentored Mike's education, recognizing Mike's intense dedication to his craft, and helped Mike hone his figure drawing skills, knowing that Mike intended to pursue a career in comic books. This is refenced in his interview with The ComicBloc [1]
VCU's CA&D department, at that time, did not accept comic book illustration as a legitimate form of visual design (despite VCU's library possessing a prestigious comic book collection [2] ), and years later tried to recruit Mike to teach illustration -- an offer he never took up. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Donssword (talk • contribs) 00:14, 5 January 2008 (UTC)Donssword (talk) 19:26, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
