Mike Chiplin (born 1979) is a Welsh musician, best known as the former drummer of successful rock band Lostprophets. Chiplin left the band on June 19, 2005 to pursue other musical opportunities. He began work on helping other fledgling Welsh bands, before himself joining The Unsung in 2006.

[edit] Biography

Mike Chiplin grew up in the Welsh town of Pontypridd near Cardiff, the capital of Wales. Whilst he was still at school, he learned to play the sitar, and when Lostprophets were formed, Mike played the sitar for them. In school, Chiplin was a big fan of the world famous band from the 80's, The Police, and was also a huge fan of the band Korn. Chiplin has said that when he heard Korn's first album, he decided to take up the drums because he was amazed by drummer David Silveria's thumping beats. Mike also said in an interview that one of his main influences was The Police's drummer Stewart Copeland [1] . In 1998, Chiplin took over drumming duties in the band, replacing Ian Watkins (original drummer; turned singer). After Chiplin replacing Watkins, the bands success starting rolling in. Chiplin recorded two albums with Lostprophets before leaving, Thefakesoundofprogress and Start Something. One thing curious about him is that he didn't start drumming until the age of 20.

After the success of Start Something their second album, the band played headlining tours of Europe and USA, playing at festivals including Rock Am Ring, Rock im Park, Leeds Festival, Reading Festival, Summer Sonic & Big Day Out.

On June 19, 2005, Chiplin left the group to pursue other musical opportunities. Since then, Chiplin has joined another band called The Unsung. He has also opened up his own practice studio for young people to start bands.
