In 1999, she was given a regular starting position alongside Anna Galvan, finishing sixth. Hutton continued in the competition in 2000, providing strong competition for the Shakers' shooter Irene Van Dyk, finishing second behind the Southern Sting.

In 2001 Hutton was signed by Invercargill's competition dominators the Southern Sting. She was one of three new signings including Adine Wilson. The team included Silver Ferns Bernice Mene, Donna Wilkins, Lesley Rumball, Adine Wilson and South African Leana de Bruin. Hutton played in every matches of the 2001 competition. The Sting won the competition (a feat they repeated every year from 1999-2004 and 2007) and Hutton was named in the Silver Ferns squad.

In 2004, Hutton left the Southern Sting to become the captain of the Capital Shakers. The Shakers finished in 7th place.
