[edit] Day of silence ref
Well if one would like to know about it they should go see the article that is linked. I don't see the issue.--Cooljuno411 (talk) 06:34, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
- According to WP:SPS, no self-published source (this includes Wikipedia) should be used as a reference for an article, for it is possible that someone claiming to be an expert in the field could publish incorrect information. Instead, reliable, third-party sources should be used. The problem with your claim in the Day of Silence article was that you were attempting to use another (unsourced) Wikipedia article as your source for the statement you were adding. There's nothing wrong with that court case, but we need a published third-party source saying that it applies to Day of Silence before we can use it in the article. —Mears man (talk) 12:43, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

- Like, omigod! I totally don't know what to say! I'd like to thank my sisters at Delta Nu for all those hours of junk shaking lessons; they did wonders on my ass and so totally payed off! Ciao bella! :-) —Mears man (talk) 12:44, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

- I noticed in the article's edit history you had made quite a few edits. I saw the show when it premiered in San Fran. Looooves it. A very good friend of mine has seen the Broadway show 7 times! He teaches dancing, musicals, and performs in local versions of shows. I went to Cincinatti to see him in 42nd Street. I missed seeing him in A Chorus Line, but we met in NYC and saw the revival show the week after it opened. He turned me into a musical lover that weekend. APK yada yada 14:01, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

- Yes, you could definitely call me a fan of the show. ;-) I can't believe you actually got to see the production live! I have the soundtrack, and I watched the recording of the show on MTV a few times, but we don't usually get things like that down here in the good ol' Bible Belt. I'd love to live closer to New York so I could actually afford the occasional trip to Broadway. I did get to see the Broadway Across America production of Wicked in Cincinatti this past January, though, and that was truly spectacular. My mother managed to get the tickets, so it was pretty much the best Christmas present ever. I'm not too terribly familiar with 42nd Street, although I do love A Chorus Line. Do you know what kind of theatre group your friend works with? I mean, is it like community theatre, or one of the big name touring companies? Either way, I bet he's good. There's no way you can be in A Chorus Line without being a dancing god. —Mears man (talk) 18:50, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
- Like, oh my god! Like, I love it! :) (BTW, APK I saw you posted something on my talk page, but I can't look at it until later. The censor program won't let me look at my talk age right now. Or yours. Or Muhammedalogedi's. It's rather annoying, but oh well.) Aleta Sing 15:35, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

I just realized that today (April 29, 2008) is the one year aniversary of the opening of Legally Blonde on Broadway. Coincidence? The world may never know... —MearsMan talk 20:55, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
- Happy anniversary! At least, I assume you think it's something to celebrate. Aleta Sing 00:39, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
- Oh yes, I loved the show. I mean, I don't expect it to be one of the classics fifty years down the road, but I did feel that the show was well done and deserving of more credit than it is often given. I also noticed on the front page this morning that it's also the 40th anniversary of the Broadway opening of Hair. I guess April 29th is just a good day for musicals. —MearsMan talk 01:34, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Day of Silence Controvercy at West Hills High School
This a respond to your message, please reply in the articles talk page, Talk:West Hills High School:
I have emailed the advising teacher about the sourcing predicament and asked her to write a formal document to touch on the events. In addition, i have asked a student to email me pictures from the day of silence, of students who still participated, regardless of the removal. And i will be sure to take pictures of the potential protest. --Cooljuno411 (talk) 20:37, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
Hi. I notice that lately you are tagging a lot of musicals-related articles with "no footnotes" and similar tags. Frankly, if you don't add the cites, no one will. For instance, Jason Robert Brown. I don't know who did the work on that article, but no one has been active on it for a long time. May I suggest that instead of tagging the articles, you select one and start upgrading the referencing; then go the the musical theatre talk page and try to get other editors interested in contributing to the particular article. We're a pretty small project (WP:MUSICALS), so I think that tagging articles will generally just leave ugly tags there indefinitely. I've been working on musicals articles pretty hard for a couple of years now, and this is just my experience. I usually try to find an article or two every day that I can upgrade, and I often try to work on ones that other editors are also working on, so that we can coordinate to improve it. It makes me sad to click around at the musicals project and see the "no footnotes" tag on articles. Note also that WP:CITE does not actually require footnotes, it just encourages them. I think it is quite clear to any WP editor who know how to add in-line cites, that an article does not have in-line cites just by looking at it. Best regards, and happy editing. -- Ssilvers (talk) 03:42, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
- I'll try to be better about watching the tags I place on articles in the future. I know it's a lame excuse, but I'm often busy here at school and simply don't have the time to research a subject, so I'll often add a tag when I see a way an article could be improved because it's quick way of saying "hey, this could use a bit of work!" I'll be out of school soon, and while I won't have a regular internet connection at home, I fully intend to spend some time at my grandmother's house finding sources for many of the articles I've tagged over the past little bit.
Also, while I'm talking about this, what exactly would joining WP:MUSICALS entail? Musical theatre related articles seem to be the bulk of what I edit, so I've thought about joining the project from time to time, but I've never actually joined one before so I'm not sure what the implications, expectations, and responsibilities of my doing so would be. Would you mind explaining this to me? I'd love to help out as best I can, I'm just not quite sure what that would look like. —MearsMan talk 04:14, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
LOL! All joining means is that you are interested in musicals. There's no commitment, except maybe watching the project talk page and participating in the discussion from time to time. Any you can put our cool userbox on your userpage. There are really only a half dozen or so people who are active in the project at any one time, and many of them are focused on a particular musical or composer, etc. So, whatever time you can spare to work on musicals articles is much appreciated. I have noted your excellent contributions in the past and look forward to working with you in the future whenever our paths cross. Best regards, -- Ssilvers (talk) 04:47, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Hairspray film
Congratulations on your excellent work on the article. I agree that the article would be stronger if you deleted the least important of the awards. When people see such a long list, their eyes glaze over, and they don't see any of it. So if you just list the half dozen or so most notable awards, then I think they will have more impact. Best regards, -- Ssilvers (talk) 23:16, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the feedback! Lately I've been talking to myself on the talk page to that article, so it's nice to discuss it with someone. I've gone ahead and removed some of what I thought to be the least notable of the awards, and I've moved that content to the article's talk page. If you'd like to look over what I've done and see what you think of it, that would be greatly appreciated. I'll be the first to admit that I don't know much about these awards, so I've always been a bit afraid to mess with them out of fear I'd be removing something important. —MearsMan talk 00:49, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
What you did certainly improves the readability of the article. I am no expert on movie awards, but from a quick glance, it seems like your choices were reasonable ones. Maybe someone more knowledgeable will comment. You could leave a request for review at the Film project talk page if you like. That's usually a pretty active project. Best regards, -- Ssilvers (talk) 05:31, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
it says my ip posted some comment that was removed in feb 08 for your hairspray article. i think another user posted that post as there are multiple users on this computer. do you know what could fix or remove my problem? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.200.191.237 (talk) 16:47, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
Say it ain't so! APK yada yada 14:13, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
- Sadly, yes, it's true. This semester has really flown by for me, and I'll be heading home for summer vacation tomorrow assuming everything goes as planned. I just wanted to let everyone know what was going on, and that I won't have regular internet access when I'm home, so I might be pretty inactive over the next couple of months. Still, I'll try to get on whenever I have the chance (I'm seriously considering moving in with my grandmother for a while just because I don't see her too often and she's one of the few people in my hometown with something better than dial-up). Hopefully things won't get too crazy around here while I'm gone. —MearsMan talk 14:21, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

- P.S. Editing WP with dial-up isn't too bad. That's what I do all the time. Aleta Sing 22:08, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
- Really? I haven't tried before, so I'll keep that in mind. We used to have dial-up at home but my mother canceled it, so now I have to go to my family's church, the library, the local dairy queen, or my grandmother's house if I want to get on the Internet. —MearsMan talk 22:20, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
- Mmmm, Dairy Queen. Editing WP while eating a chocolate chip cookie dough Blizzard sounds nice. APK yada yada 22:47, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
