"Maybe Tonight" is a pop song written by Dave Bassett, Jess Cates and Lindy Robbins, produced by Bryon Jones and Adam Reily for Kate DeAraugo's first album A Place I've Never Been (2005). The song was the "Winner's Single" of season three of Australian Idol, being that the person that won got to record the song. It was released as the album's first single on November 28, 2005 (see 2005 in music) in Australia as a Maxi single. It was successful in her home country Australia, becoming her first number-one hit.

The music video for the song was directed by Anthony Rose on a rainy day in Sydney November 2005. The video opens up to DeAraugo walking around a bedroom and then she looks out of a window and sees a middle aged couple with an umbrella. The couple then start walking together holding hands. While DeAraugo is still looking out of the window, a man is fixing the front of his car but fails and the couple with the umbrella then sit on the ground and kiss. DeAraugo then walks away from the window and sits on a bed, while the man who was trying to fix his car is trying to call DeAraugo with his mobile phone but it gets knocked out of his hands and breaks once it hits the ground. At that exact moment DeAraugo then tries to ring the man but it doesn't go through. The couple with the umbrella are then shown to be riding a bike together. At the end the man starts running to get to DeAraugo and then he knocks on her door and as soon as she answers he embraces her.

The song was released to Australian radio on November 21, 2005 and became the most added song to radio for that week[1]. DeAraugo made an appearance on the Australian morning show Sunrise on December 2, 2005 performing the song live and she made instore appearances to stores in Sydney, Melbourne and the Gold Coast signing the single. The CD maxi single featured the song along with a cover of the Alanis Morissette song "Ironic" she performed live on Australian Idol's "Up Close & Personal" special. "Maybe Tonight" reached number fifteen on the national Australian airplay chart[2].
The song debuted on the Australian ARIA Singles Chart on December 5, 2005 at the number-one position with 20,307 copies sold and was certified platinum by ARIA[3]. On its second week it remained on the number-one position but was knocked off the top spot by fellow Idol contestant Lee Harding with his "Wasabi"/"Eye of the Tiger" release and fell to number three and stayed their for two weeks then falling to number four to number seven and then to number eight. It then dropped out of the top ten to number eighteen after spending seven weeks in it and stayed at number eighteen for another week ten falling out of the top twenty to twenty-four. The song then dropped out of the top twenty from going to twenty-nine to thirty-three then to thirty-eight then dropping out of the top fifty after thirteen weeks in it and falling to number fifty-two. The song slowely fell down the chart from then on and after seven weeks it had left the top one hundred after spending twenty-one weeks in it. The song was nominated for an ARIA Award for "Highest Selling Single" for 2006 and was the fifty-first highest selling single for 2005 and forty-ninth for 2006.
