[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:CityOfFargoLogo.gif)
Thanks for uploading Image:CityOfFargoLogo.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:11, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] McIntosh, MN
Hello, Matthew! I contributed to the above page a few days ago, but you edited my content out. Can you please explain why? I am a native of McIntosh, and the information was researched by me and can be documented through census records.
Also, I am new to Wikipedia and didn't understand that I needed to be signed in for my IP address to be omitted. Is it posible to change or delete that information from the version I posted on 1/18/08?
Thank you! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dierkes (talk • contribs) 20:51, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

I noticed that you had posted a question on the template talk page about the public transit field. Since then, someone has removed it entirely. I don't see any record of anyone ever having discussed its removal. I'll leave a message on said editor's talk page, as well. Aepoutre (talk) 00:50, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Michael Brown (mayor), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. [edit] AfD nomination of Michael Brown (mayor)
An editor has nominated Michael Brown (mayor), an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").
Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Michael Brown (mayor) and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 09:44, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Grafton, ND Page
Hello MatthewUND,
I noticed the Grafton page continually has information on Jugville USA. As a former resident and one who has written several reports pertaining to the city and surrounding area, I'm perplexed as to why information regarding Jugville USA is included. Few Grafton residents have any idea the place exists as it was merely one man's hobby collection. I'm not downplaying Jugville USA, but it is irrelevant to the town and should be removed.
I'm more than willing assist with the Grafton page so shoot me a message when you have time.

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:LordOfTheFliesBookCover.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:LordOfTheFliesBookCover.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Project FMF (talk) 04:04, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] point me to where it says city estimates can never be used when it comes to population data
Look at Wikipedia:WikiProject Cities/Guideline: it says that US Census data is to be used. Don't think that we always have to use the 2000 census data; the Census Bureau issues estimates every year. Nyttend (talk) 15:41, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Fargo page listing cities...
I wonder if it would be a good idea to at least list Horace, Mapleton and Casselton as those are equal in size suburbs to Dilworth. At the least Horace and Mapleton as those are considered part of the contiguous metropolitan area? I've been enjoying writing content and helping to further enhance Wikipedia information on the Fargo metropolitan area. I think I'm getting the hang of it - hope the questions aren't too annoying. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cmohs01 (talk • contribs)

[edit] North Dakota county histories
Greetings. I've started working on township and county maps for North Dakota, see Image:Map of Adams County, North Dakota.svg and Image:Map highlighting Cedar Township, Adams County, North Dakota.svg. I've been going through U.S. Census records to gather historic population data for the counties and townships to expand/create articles, and came upon an interesting historical footnote with respect to Stark/Hettinger Counties and a discrepency for Adams County I wanted to run by you.
Hettinger County is listed by the National Association of Counties as being established in 1883. This is the date reported by Atlas of Historical County Boundaries[1]. However, in 1896, Stark County annexed Hettinger and three other counties by act of the Legislature. This is confirmed by 1900 Census documents, which lists all of the townships from Hettinger, Dunn, and Wallace Counties as being part of Stark. The North Dakota Supreme Court declared that act unconstititional in 1901, reverting the previous counties back to their original boundaries. After another attempt at annexation and another reversal by the ND Supreme Court, Hettinger was formally organized in 1907. I'm going to get a copy of the North Dakota Supreme Court decisions from the state library here in Bismarck. I'll try to come up with some text describing the sitution on the various county articles. If you have any thoughts on how to include this, let me know.
Adams County is where I found a discrepancy. NaCO lists Adams as being established in 1885, as does the North Dakota GenWeb project. However, the Census, Historical County Atlas, and the North Dakota Blue Book list the county starting in 1907, when Adams was created from Hettinger County. There was an Adams County authorized for creation in Dakota Territory on March 13, 1885, but according to the County Atlas that Adams County was proposed for a portion of Brown County, South Dakota. That change never took effect. My question to you is what date should I use? I would argue that the 1885 Adams County 1) never existed, and 2) is not the same geographic entity as the 1907 Adams or the 2007 Adams County, so we should use 1907 as the date. Again, I'll look to the state library for an early North Dakota Blue Book for confirmation.
Again, I appreciate your thoughts.Dcmacnut (talk) 21:52, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
