Matt appears as an intelligent person who just had unfortunate luck in school. He is very competent when it comes to his job, and has a hard time dealing with many of this fellow employees, including his boss, Zack. He expresses disgust for the lack of work the higher in the company a person moves. He is seen as the "voice of reason" among the restaurant employees.

[edit] Alison
Matt dated a waitress, Alison, for almost three years before she left him for a cook. Although her relationship with the cook didn't work out, she refused to go back with Matt. Although they have been broken up for a year, Matt is still unable to get over her.
[edit] Katie
Katie admittedly has feelings for Matt, but has accepted that they will not be together due to Matt's feelings about Alison. However, they seem to flirt back and forth through the first season. Ryan and Alex both made bets on when Matt and Katie would get together.
[edit] Alex
Matt and Alex have been best friends since college. Matt gets upset with Alex's relentless attempts to get Angie.
[edit] Zack
Matt has a lot of problems with Zack due to his management style and the fact that he doesn't seem to care.
[edit] Others
Matt doesn't appear to have strong relationships with anyone else at the bar. Although he seemingly gets along with everyone, he isn't close friends with anyone else.
