Alex graduated from Hart High School in the class of 2000 before attending Western Michigan University as a architecture major. After failing a political science course and realizing Western doesn't offer an architecture program, he and fellow classmate Matt Adams took a bartending course and were hired as bartenders at Calabar's.

Alex appears as a smart, but easily distracted person. He is a talented bartender and often times will assist Matt in playing jokes on their co-worker, Brandon.

Alex has had feelings for Angie for a long time, despite her relationship with cook, Edgar. They talk all the time at work and actually spend time out of work frequently, often times resulting in semi-romantic situations. In general, Angie confuses Alex, sending him mixed signals. Alex will sometimes meddle in her relationship with Edgar, and often times Matt will advise him against it.

Alex and Matt have been best friends since college. While Matt tries to advise Alex about being careful around Angie and Edgar, he typically ignores him.

Alex and Edgar seemingly get along. Edgar is aware that Alex and Angie spend a lot of time together, but he doesn't seem to consider Alex a threat.
