Hi, thanks! I've mostly been busy today categorizing computer games, and I hope any new catagories I've made will be accepted. Be Bold, and all that. Marasmusine 22:27, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi Marasmusine! I noticed your edit summary at AFD that you were having a problem, and having looked at your recent edits I think I see the confusion and wanted to offer some help. You have tagged Invasion 3 for proposed deletion. When you do this you do not list the article at WP:AFD. With the prod template in place, you need do nothing further. If, in five days (or sometimes longer because of backlog) no one removes the {{prod}} notice, the article will be deleted. If someone removes the prod template, then you can list the article at afd like this: 1) On the article page you would place {{subst:afd1}}. 2) In the AFD tag will be a redlink for "this article's entry." Click on that and in that new page place: {{subst:afd2 | pg=PageName | text=Your Reason for deletion--~~~~}}. Once that is saved, 3) you would go to the current day's afd listing and place {{subst:afd3 | pg=PageName}}. I hope this helps. Happy editing!--Fuhghettaboutit 22:57, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
Right! Thanks for your help - I was baffled by all the different templates. So I only need to use afd templates and manual listing if it becomes ongoing. Cheers Fugh:> Marasmusine 23:03, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
You're welcome. Some of the processes and templates can be baffling. By the way, its great that you prodded the article first. Afd is resource intensive. Much better to prod articles first and only use afd when and if the prod template is removed.--Fuhghettaboutit 23:24, 12 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Giganotosaurus's size in Dino Crisis 2

Hello Marasmusine,

Why did you delete the info about Giganotosaurus's exaggerated size in Dino Crisis 2. I don't know if it's been you the whole time, but that entry has been removed quite a few times for no reason at all. It is correct and should be there. Jerkov 16:44, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

Nothing to do with me. If you check the history, you'll see my only edit was to add the 'Dinosaurs in computer games' category. The person who keeps deleting your factoid appears to be using a dynamic IP address; Personally I don't have a problem with the Gigantosaurus comment. Thanks Marasmusine 16:50, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
I've a feeling the 'Facts' header should be renamed to something else. Like 'Exaggerations' or 'Factual errors' or something.
Oh, sorry. I made a mistake. Jerkov 20:39, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
Thats okay! I'll keep half an eye on the article anyways. Marasmusine 22:01, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Could you explain reasons for tagging my page so I can fix it?

I don't know specifically what you are objecting to, so please help me out on this. LiftWaffen 12:05, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

Hi LiftWaffen, my concern was a) It was presented like an advert (Example: "is a gripping eye-wittness account" and "The book is written in such a way that the reader is left in no doubt of the genuinesnn of his beliefs" and b) notability (Has an amazon.com but couldn't find any other references to it). I won't interfer any further as Fuhghettaboutit has done some copyediting and the article reads better now. Sorry if you took any offence. Marasmusine 14:37, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
I didn't take any offense. I'm just trying to learn and appreciate what you have done. LiftWaffen 15:09, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
Okay! If I may elaborate: the language used makes an assumption about the reader, but an encyclopedia needs to be pure fact. If you see how Fuhgettaboutit has changed the text you'll see what I mean. Thanks! Marasmusine 15:12, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

Thankyou, We are currently researching the spam fritter issue. We intend to have full documentation and pictures by the end of the week. 82.109.250.207 14:42, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

The Articles For Deletion flag has been removed a second time, please be aware that this is considered vandalism. If you want to keep the article, the correct place to discuss it is here. Marasmusine 14:49, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

The article just doesn't look encyclopedic. If you can get together some notable cultural references and an interesting history, a la Apple pie then go for it. Marasmusine 15:14, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
I've not come across spam fritters yet. Is Doncaster not far north enough? :> Marasmusine 15:18, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] (not so) false claims of vandalism on John Ince

[edit] Luke butkovich

Hi. I don't want to revert you, but the article is patent nonsense, not a biography. See the talk page if you don't want to read the whole article. If it's still around, could you please re-add the {{db-nonsense}} instead of the db-bio? Thanks. --Storkk 10:33, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

I reverted it, but I still don't think it is WP:Patent nonsense. A fictional biography, then. 8 kids by 18 is certainly possible :> Marasmusine 10:38, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
Perhaps possible... but he participated in the Virginia continental congress in 1987 when he was 1 year old? no matter anyhow. It'll be gone soon Storkk 10:44, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
That's... uh... still possible? Maybe? :> Marasmusine 10:46, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Tom Happold

Hi Marasmusine! I have removed the speedy deletion tag from Tom Happold, as I would think that beign the assistant editor of Guardian Unlimited to at least be a claim of notability. I would suggest that to be deleted, this article requires WP:PROD or WP:AfD. JPD (talk) 11:19, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

Hmm, maybe I've got an itchy trigger finger. I saw that the article was also created by Tom Happold and immediately thought 'vanity'. Marasmusine 11:22, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Isisvoice

I've replaced the {{prod}} you put on Isisvoice with an AfD nomination. This article is a recreation of ISIS VOICE, by the same editor. It was previously deleted under the prod process. Agent 86 17:23, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

Okay. What's the easiest way of finding out if an article has been previously deleted? Marasmusine 17:25, 15 September 2006 (UTC)
Sometimes it's hard to tell. I knew about this one only because I was the one who flagged the previous version of the article for deletion, so I sort of had my eye open. If it's a recreation of a deleted article, but with a slightly altered name (i.e. in this case the space was removed from the title), there will be no deletion log. If you're in the edit page for a "new" article, the template that starts with "Wikipedia does not have an article with this exact name", you'll see a link to the deletion log and the article deletion discussion page (click on Isisvoice now and you'll see what I mean). Agent 86 21:27, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Kamope

When I've put the speedy deletion tag on oblate, I wanted to propose the image for speedy deletion. How do I do that?

Uh, why do you want to speedily delete oblate ? Marasmusine 01:21, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

Hi. I noticed you have been changing year links in computer and video game article. However, you may like to read the recent change of wikilinking policy here (discussion). The "xx in 2006" links are no longer applicable in full dates due to technical issues, but solitary year links are still exempted from this change.

[edit] categorization

Hi. I'm DEEPLY offended that you categorized Quadrinity. :-) I had categorized all the Qs and was waiting for the AfD to close (anytime soon) before marking the Qs as done. But here you are: poof poof category:Theology and you give yourself all the credit? How shameless of you... But I kid of course. I did get curious though and took a quick look at your contribs list: I'm not a big fan of barnstars but your dedication to underground work merits everyone's admiration. Cheers. [edit] edits

Why did you delete my "Hints" Section on the LEGO LOCO page? Those hints were proven to work.--Cricket Boy 02:38, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

Hello Cricket Boy. I removed them because 'hints' aren't encyclopedic. If you have a look at Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not, point 4 (instruction manuals) that will explain why. Marasmusine 07:20, 8 October 2006 (UTC)
Well, if "hints" for programs shouldn't be on WikiPedia, why is there the "devolopers credits" "easter egg" on qBASIC??? --Cricket Boy 00:16, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
Perhaps you could ask Armslurp or any of the editors who have actually contributed to that article? But it's a strange comparison to make because a) qBASIC isn't a computer game and b) An Easter egg (media) isn't really a hint, it's an 'undocumented feature'. I don't really have a set time I update them. Just whenever I'm playing if I find something I add it to the list. Cole! 21:54, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

Hey Cole! Have fun with your editing, but don't forget to read something like Wikipedia:Five pillars so you can see what is and isn't suitable for article content. But don't worry too much about that as there's nothing that can't be edited/reverted later on. [edit] Aetolia

The page was recently deleted, but I wanted to ask you about a comment you made on it's log:

"The software is among the core products of a notable software developer or vendor." It seems to me that by that provision, Aetolia meetst the notability requirement as it is a core product of Iron Realms Entertainment.

   * Good point. Then all Iron Realms Entertainment has to do then is pass WP:CORP and we're away. Marasmusine 08:44, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

I would say that IRE does meet the criteria for it, they have been shown on TechTV(under the old name, Achaea LLC which was renamed to Iron Realms Entertainment LLC when Aetolia was released, Achaea is still the name of their original game). The CEO is a frequent speaker at game development conferences. They are also mentioned in many places online which a quick google search can find.

If you could let me know if you feel I'm right in that estimate, then I'll look at contesting the deletion and getting someone to rewrite the article so it meets the criteria. I'm not an employee or even a player(well, I was years ago) but if it meets the criteria then it should be put back. Thanks.

PR Baram 12:40, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

Hi PR; If Iron Realms Entertainment has been the subject of multiple non-trivial published works whose source is independent of the company or corporation itself then such claims of notability should be written into the article (which at the moment has nothing like that.) Once that article is encylopedic, Aetolia can be restored - but it should be made clear that it is a 'core product' in the introductory paragraph (and this should be done with the other three games too.) If it is restored, then it should be trimmed down, a lot (I seem to remember saying that it resembled a game guide.)
But yeah, if you can cite the items you mentioned then go for it. Marasmusine 12:53, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] American Academy of Financial Management

American Academy of Financial Management

Marasmusine - you flagged this entry as an advertisement and we'd like that removed.

The entity is a legitimate, not-for-profit professional association with more than 40,000 members in 145 countries. Obviously a Wikipedia entry is vital to maintain our status as a leading association, social network and community for financial service professionals. Our main role is to assist individuals with career development and to educate professionals.

If you ban or flag this as you have, then may I suggest you also do the same for Harvard, Oxford, CPA and thousands of other entries also. There should be no distinction between our presence on Wiki and these other organizations which are identical in structure and purpose.

email me on bking@aafm.org should you have any questions.

Hello Brett k, if you want the tag removed, why don't you just remove it? Personally, I put the tag up because the article reads like, well, an advertisement; that is to say it looks like self-promotion. I had a quick look at the Harvard article and, well, it reads more like an encyclopedia entry. Marasmusine 09:21, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
Uh, also: Obviously a Wikipedia entry is vital to maintain our status as a leading association, social network and community for financial service professionals.. If I read that jargon right, you want to use Wikipedia as an advertising service? Marasmusine 09:23, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Don't forget to subst: templates!

Hi,

When using certain template tags on talk pages, don't forget to substitute with text by adding subst: to the template tag. For example, use {{subst:test}} instead of {{test}}. This reduces server load and prevents accidental blanking of the template.

Thanks! :)

[edit] Battlecity

Hey, I was just trying to improve the Battlecity article and I believe I hit "edit this page" while on an older version, which therefore caused my changes to also remove the notice including the discussion of the possible deletion of the article. Sorry, the thank you message is long overdue but I really just noticed a second ago that you had left a barnstar on my user page! This categorization backlog is really a nice and rather rare success-story of editors working together and clearing a maintenance backlog. Ok, so we do have 17K to go, but let's not nitpick. :-) Pascal.Tesson 23:45, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] neologism?

With all due respect, I think you misinterpreted the interview with the Divine Divinity team and accidentally created a neologism. See Talk:combat-oriented computer role-playing game. Edit: Please leave any comments on the alleged genre's talk page. -- Solberg 07:19, 16 January 2007 (UTC)Solberg

For my reference, here are the Edge issues I need to check for this term:
  • Diablo II, E88
  • Dungeon Siege, E111
  • Champions of Norrath, E135

The Edge Online review search isn't very complete unfortunately; it was some of the sequels and later games (probably in a preview) not listed above that described that genre. But I'll have a good look. Marasmusine 07:54, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

Sure, take your time. Keep in mind that even though you're right that the journalist used that term, he might have meant it as a descriptive phrase rather than a specific established genre, just like how I can talk about "sexy adventure games" but it might not be a formal category, just a description. I'm also not sure if whether Edge (magazine)'s lone usage of the term would be enough. Google does not support other mainstream usage, although it's possible maybe you can finetune my query to show otherwise. -- Solberg 03:20, 17 January 2007 (UTC)Solberg
(Also copied my response on here to purported genre talk page).

[edit] Renaming the list of zombie games

Hey there, I thought it prudent to sound you out before going ahead, but would you object if I renamed Zombies in computer and video games to something like List of video games prominently featuring zombies or something to that affect? It seems that the current title would be good if it were an ordinary enc. article and the subject of zombies' impact on gaming were being discussed. However, since we're using it as a list, the name instead implies that it's a list of video games which feature zombies (read: squillions!).

I think if the title were made self-explanatory it would help in the long-run, what do you think? QuagmireDog 15:05, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

I don't know why I didn't spot that before. You're right; it's a list page, so should be called List of computer and video games featuring zombies. ('prominently featuring' might be tautology?) Anyways, go for it :> Marasmusine 18:14, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
Much better. Thanks for that, the list's looking spry and healthy. QuagmireDog 12:51, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Proposed edits to Dragonball Pages

Hello, Marasmusine! I've seen your name on the edits for a few of the Dragonball pages. I'm the maintainer for Dragonball T, an open source roguelike game module based on Dragonball currently under development for the T-Engine. I would like to add mention of it to the Dragonball game list, and possibly other related pages where appropriate, but honestly I'm scared to.

A lot of time and effort has gone into the Dragonball pages here, and I don't want to upset anyone. If you do a google search for "Dragonball T" the download page for the module comes up as the #1 result from over 5 million pages. I think it's safe to say the game deserves mention here, but...as the game maintainer it may not be entirely proper for me to be the one who handles the edits.

For example, the Dragonball games list here very specifically states Video games, which Dragonball T is definately not. So...to create a new category for only one game, or mix it in with the others? What about the 'Appearances in other media' section for every character? They all have an itemized listing of every tv show, manga, pop culture reference, and video game they've appeared in. Often, very lengthy lists. It seems reasonable to me to include appearances in a fan-made game also, but again, I'm the game maintainer. Other similar issues may exist, and I'm thinking it may be better to let someone who regularly updates the Dragonball pages in general decide how to handle the addition. What are your thoughts?

Thank you! LordBucket 02:45, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

Hi LordBucket. You're right in that the game maintainer shouldn't add an article to his own game, as this would not be written from a neutral point of view and would be seen as self-promotion.
Does your game meet notability requirements? They are listed here: Wikipedia:Notability (software). It looks like a module for ToME (computer game), which while it has its own article here, modules for it wouldn't normally be considered notable.
Here's the main criteria for inclusion of a game article: Software is notable if it has been the subject of multiple non-trivial published works whose source is independent of the company itself.
There's also an issue with linking to external pages with copyright issues. Now I'm not that familiar with Dragonball or your game module but if you're using copyrighted names and settings that might be a problem.
In any event, as the game maintainer there's not much you can do. If it is a notable game, then someone else independent of you might come along and make an entry. But I regularly see this type of game removed from Wikipedia. Marasmusine 09:19, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Nonsense in Mute(chemical)

Hello Marasmusine about the "mute" article currently it may seem like non-sense thats due to the corrupted files which contain the lab tests; I assure you this is not non-sense infact the creator of this substance has been nominated to win the nobel prize in chemistry confermations of the validility of this substance will come in a month or 2 after the lab tests are finished.

What in the **** is going on? A massive shift in category names with no discussion that I can find on either CFD or the Wikiproject's web page. If you can point me to where the change has been discussed then excuse my tone, but I've looked in all the usual places for such a discussion and I can't find anything that would support what at present looks like an attempt to hijack teh name of a large number of categories. Hi, the changes have been discussed on the Video game talk page and Wikipedia:WikiProject Computer and video games. I won't continue in the time being, though. Marasmusine 23:26, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
Talk:Video game#Requested move is where it all started, followed by Talk:Video game#Video game migration... next steps... and Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Computer_and_video_games#Project name. Marasmusine 23:29, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

BTW, thanks for your support in this discussion. I finally have the CfDs added onto all of the pages, and see that naming conventions across the whole class of pages are a complete wreck. I'm thinking phase 2 will be cleaning up any merger fallouts from this, and the phase 3 will be going though a second renaming pass on some of pages for consistency such as "blah blah based video game", "video game featuring blah blah"... and we haven't even gotten into Project or Article page namings =D. Thanks again!BcRIPster 19:03, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Having your own page deleted

If you create a page, and before anyone else edits it you decide to have it deleted, like what seems to have happened with Category:Action point based board games, please put a {{db-self}} at the top of the page, in stead of blanking it. This will attract an administrator to it to have it deleted. I've marked this one for you - since you blanked it, that's enough. Eli Falk 09:28, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

Oh yes, now I remember. You got me in a panic then because I thought then someone had blanked the cat and removed all the articles. But now I remember I had decided on a different title. Silly me. Marasmusine 09:43, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Tagging a page for speedy deletion - please inform creator.

Hi, it's courteous to inform the page creator when you tag a page for speedy deletion (as you did with my page DontStayIn). The speedy tag gives you the correct text syntax to do so, you only have to c&p it onto the user's talk page. Please consider taking the extra 30 seconds to do this in the future, thankyou. exolon 18:37, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

I usually do, sorry if I missed one. Marasmusine 18:58, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Explaination about the page you just deleted...

I created my 1st page FantaWild Adventure last night... Well.. its deleted.. because the article seems to be blatant advertising that only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. I must say.. for the first thing...Im only one of tourists who ever been there... and im a resident in wuhu, meanwhile you can find the chanages i did last night as well to Wuhu Page. its my hometown.. and fantawild adventure is the new site for entainment here.. Im not employed by the company to do this or for my own benefits. I just wanted to give a better and complete description over this city.. to give people some details about the spot.. and thats all.. at the same time.. im not questioning about your doubt, its really easy to be recognised as a spam. in fact, its not, because what else could i write for people about an amusement park apart from these seem-to-be spams? besides, due to the time difference i didnt realise that my article was tagged "delete" as i went to bed immediately after writing, i didnt even have time to put a HANGON ontop... so please response to this... thanx
