Margaret Mountford is a British lawyer and business woman originally from Holywood, Northern Ireland.[1] She was educated at Girton College, Cambridge.

She has been a non-Executive Director of Amstrad plc since September 22, 1999. She also has many years of corporate law experience as a law firm partner at Herbert Smith (from which she retired in March 1999). She is also a non-Executive Director at Georgica Plc.

Mountford is one of Sir Alan Sugar's advisors in the UK version of the The Apprentice television show, a role with which she has achieved increased public popularity as the franchise continues[2].

Mountford believes that her Northern Irish background has helped her career, saying: “I think coming from Northern Ireland gives you a lot of basic level-headedness and stands you in very good stead. A lot of what’s required is a common sense approach, much of business depends on that actually.”

Mountford is now a part-time student, in the process of attaining a Ph.D in papyrology [3]. She also chairs the board of governors of an inner-London Church of England Comprehensive School.[4]

Mountford returned to Girton College on the 15th of February 2008 as the guest speaker for the college Law Society. In her speech she stated a great belief that there is no "glass ceiling", and that any woman can make it to the top of her profession if they put in the effort.
