Manuel Neuer (born March 27, 1986 in Gelsenkirchen) is a German footballer and the current goalkeeper of the football club FC Schalke 04. Neuer's hero and idol as a child was fellow German goalkeeper Jens Lehmann.[1] He is considered (along with René Adler) to be one of the most talented young German keepers.

[edit] FC Schalke 04
Neuer won the starting position at FC Schalke 04 from experienced keeper Frank Rost midway through the first half of the 2006–07 Bundesliga season.
On March 5, 2008, in the first knockout round of the UEFA Champions League, Manuel Neuer performed fantastically against FC Porto where he pulled off many magical saves in regulation time to send Schalke to penalties, and later saved penalties from Bruno Alves and Lisandro Lopez to help Schalke advance to the quarter finals. He was one of only three Bundesliga players to play every single minute in the 2007–08 season. Neuer is also one of the two goalkeepers to get an assist.[2] The other being René Adler.
[edit] International career
Neuer was left out of Germany's final 23-man squad for Euro 2008, with German coach Joachim Löw choosing René Adler as the third-choice keeper.
