Mahavir Prasad Dwivedi

Mahavir Prasad Dwivedi (Hindi: महावीर प्रसाद द्विवेदी) (b. 1864 Daulatapur village, Raebareli District, Uttar Pradesh - d. 1938) was a modern Hindi writer. 'Adhunikkaal', or the Modern Hindi literature is divided into four group, and he represents the second group, titled after him, as Dwivedi Yug (1893-1918), which was preceded by Bharatendu Yug (1868-1893) and followed by Chhayavad Yug (1918-1937) [1]

During his Indian Railways service in Jhansi in the 1880s, Dwivedi earned wide fame as a writer and litterateur. He published his translations and the critical works including Sahitya Sandarbh and Vichar Vimarsh.

Around 1903, Dwivedi joined the Hindi monthly, and was able to edit the journal with a knowledge of both classical and contemporary literature gained from his writing experiences.

He was mentor of Maithili Sharan Gupt, another famous Hindi poet and writer.
