Anyone out there have the type of real world facts and dates to bring a nonfictional perspective to this article? Clearly the Maggia was Marvel's method for using the Mafia in its comics without actually calling it the Mafia; I'm curious why this was done. (Many publishers and distributors of comics and other periodicals at the time had alleged ties to the Mafia.) Eventually Marvel started to allow references to the Mafia in its comics; what changed? Do they still use the Maggia label in reference to the Hammerhead, Silvermane, etc. families? I don't recall seeing it in a long time. Seems like such a goofily obvious fictional disguise for a real-world organisation (which they now have no problem referencing openly) would seem corny to Marvel's mostly older audience today.

What about pronunciation? I favour "MAH-jee-uh" but as a youngster I assumed it was "MAG-ee-uh." Is there an official answer?
