[edit] Featured List of the Day Experiment

There have been a series of proposals to initiate a Featured List of the Day on the main page. Numerous proposals have been put forth. After the third one failed, I audited all WP:FL's in order to begin an experiment in my own user space that will hopefully get it going. Today, it commences at WP:LOTD. Afterwards I created my experimental page, a new proposal was set forth to do a featured list that is strikingly similar to my own which is to do a user page experimental featured list, but no format has been confirmed and mechanism set in place. I continue to be willing to do the experiment myself and with this posting it commences. Please submit any list that you would like to have considered for list of the day in the month of January 2008 by the end of this month to WP:LOTD and its subpages. You may submit multiple lists for consideration.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:LOTD) 17:55, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Vilniaus diena.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Vilniaus diena.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 19:41, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Well Done

The 25 DYK Medal
Congratulations! Here's a medal for you in appreciation of your hardwork in creating, expanding and nominating 25+ articles for DYK. Your nearly halfway to 50 already, M.K! ... I understand there are a few notable subjects about Lithuania that still need an article! (Despite your wide ranging coverage of castles, people, birds, fortresses and conferences!) Keep up the good work -- Victuallers (talk) 09:36, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

Did you know that one other DYK contributor was so keen to get a medal that he stubbed his toe?

 :) Thanks! M.K. (talk) 11:54, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Move of Scottish kings

There is a proposed move of Scottish kings at Talk:Kenneth I of Scotland that I thought I'd bring to your attention. I think you have had things to say on this subject in the past. Probably won't be successful, but that's wiki for you. Best regards, Deacon of Pndapetzim (Talk) 17:28, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Mindaugas

Hi MK, I'd like to start working on this, a few questions. 1) The first sentence is a combination of several elements - pronunciation, dates, alternate names - and this combination is not directly addressed in the WP manual of style page. So we need to find an acceptable example somewhere. 2) Somewhere out on WP is a map showing areas ruled by Mindaugas and areas under his influence, but I can't find it just now. Could it have been made by Knutson? Anyway, this would be a good addition if we could find it. 3) Organization - maybe origins first? We could put the LT background information here that was requested by the reviewer. Then there is good bit about family in House of Mindaugas that could be incorporated, but where will take some thought. 4) The bribe of Andrius Štirlandas - it would be good to state what that involved, but it will take me a good while to go thru the LT reference. Later, Novickas (talk) 14:27, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Missing image Image:Battle of Orsha (1514-09-08).jpg

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:Battle of Orsha (1514-09-08).jpg, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:Battle of Orsha (1514-09-08).jpg is an image page for a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Image:Battle of Orsha (1514-09-08).jpg, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. M.K.. Hope all is well. Per chance, if you can, what Lithuanian names would be Russianized as Гердень and Эрдивид? All the best, Deacon of Pndapetzim (Talk) 17:16, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

Thank you muchly for your support in my recent request for adminship, which was successfully closed on 76%, finishing at 73 supports, 23 opposes and 1 neutral. [edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Armia Krajowa killings 2.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Armia Krajowa killings 2.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 19:17, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Opinion about a map?

Hey, I would like to know what you think about this map. Thanks, Renata (talk) 05:56, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, but I am totally horrible when it comes to choosing colors... I can easily spend two hours fiddling with them and the result will be similarly pathetic. Can you help me here? You can edit svg with Inkscape. Renata (talk) 08:12, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Dubingiai sandbox

Thanks for your note, I'll take another pass through the article later in the week, this past weekend was very busy and only left enough energy for some minor edits here and there. Baltic history, in any aspects, requires much more than Internet searches... But you knew that! —PētersV (talk) 13:30, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

No intent on my part to move anything over until the entire sandbox is agreed to, yourself and Piotrus being two of the prime editors involved. —PētersV (talk) 12:42, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Source for name usages

Here is a scholarly index of historical names that might be useful: [1]. Note its international editorial board and the careful distinctions made: the preferred name goes first, followed by alternate name(s) in parentheses; some versions of names are simply redirected. The introduction is a bit too advanced for my LT skills, but it seems to explain the naming protocols. Novickas (talk) 12:43, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, will look around, M.K. (talk) 07:49, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Unions

Hi, thanks for clarification, but still i`m not that experienced user to see the difference between opened and closed poll. I`v got one more question: if majority voted for move, why there`s still old name? At now i`m more interested in Union of Horodlo and not in moveing, voteing etc. but in expandeing it, soon i`ll try to expand other unions stubs. I just don`t get why people write huge explanations why to move or why not to, instead of writeing some better articles. Thanks for link, i`v added my vote, but still i think that official name should be considered in the first place, Commonwealth, but not the Polish-Lithuanian, rather of Both Nations (only Latin name can be translated like that). [edit] Kaunas Fortress

Am working on a version in User:Novickas/sandbox2. Please check it over as I go along - when done, we can copy it in a section at a time, so that it's not too much of a shock to the reviewers, altho there won't be major changes. Best, Novickas (talk) 13:09, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

Pls feel free to edit it at any point. The layout I messed up there and will fix (if the fortress spanned rivers, one can presume bridges, would be good to clarify that). But the number of Holocaust victims - the numbers from the US museum [2] don't agree with this ref [3] - to my eyes. What to do, don't know at this point. RL will occupy some time here. Best, Novickas (talk) 12:24, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

Declaring done for now. Tried to address the numbers issue by listing various sources. Maybe you could contact the reviewer? Later, Novickas (talk) 14:24, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
