Ludovic Butelle (born April 3, 1983 in Reims) is a French football goalkeeper, who currently plays for Valencia CF.
Butelle began his career at FC Metz from French Ligue 1 in the 2001-02 season, where he played 6 matches. He became a regular the next two seasons playing 20 and 27 matches, after which he was signed by Valencia in July 2004. He was seen as a possible replacement for aging Andrés Palop and Santiago Cañizares. He had a six-month loan at Hércules CF in Alicante for the rest of his first season.
From 2005-07, with Palop departed, Butelle eventually became backup, replacing another veteran, Juan Luis Mora. On 29 November, 2006, he extended his contract from 2009 to 2012.[1]
In 2007-08, he was again loaned, this time to Real Valladolid and, after starting the season as first-choice, he eventually lost the battle with youngster Sergio Asenjo (18) and veteran Alberto (38). After considering a return to France for the remainder of the season, he eventually stayed until his loan expired.
