Longreach Regional Council

Longreach Regional Council is a proposed Local Government Area in Queensland, Australia. The Local Government Area will be created in March 2008 as a result of the report of the Local Government Reform Commission released in July 2007. The new Council, located in western Queensland, will contain the entire area of three existing Local Government Areas;

• Shire of Longreach;
• Shire of Ilfracombe; and
• Shire of Isisford.

The report recommends that the new local government area should not be divided into wards and elect six councillors and a mayor. The Longreach Regional Council will cover an area of 40,638 square kilometres (15,690 sq mi), contain an estimated resident population in 2006 of 4,664 and have an estimated operating budget of AUD22.3m.

The Regional Council will cover the towns of Arrilalah, Emmet, Ilfracombe, Isisford, Longreach, Morella and Yaraka.
