Charters Towers Regional Council

Charters Towers Regional Council is a proposed Local Government Area in Queensland, Australia. The Local Government Area will be created in March 2008 as a result of the report of the Local Government Reform Commission released in July 2007. The new Council, located in North Queensland, will contain the entire area of two existing Local Government Areas:
The report recommends that the new local government area should not be divided into wards and elect six councillors and a mayor. The Charters Towers Regional Council will cover an area of 68,388 square kilometres (26,405 sq mi), contain an estimated resident population in 2006 of 12,280 and have an estimated operating budget of AUD27.5m.
The Regional Council will cover the city of Charters Towers and the towns of Greenvale, Mingela and Pentland.
The Mayor is Ben Callcott.[1]
