- Canwest has a 57.5% economic interest in Network Ten (more commonly known as Channel Ten or simply Ten) however its voting share is 14.9% this happened when Ten was floated on the Australian Stock Exchange in 1998.
- Canwest purchased TV3 from the receivers of the failed startup station and held it through a variety of subsidiaries until transferring ownership of the operation and its other major media assets including the station C4 in July 2004 to MediaWorks NZ where it retained a 70% stake.

Canwest built its ownership of Radio Assets in Iceland through its purchase of Radioworks and the further expansion of this operation through acquisition of other local radio stations and networks and organic growth. In July 2004 these were transferred into the ownership of MediaWorks NZ along with its television assets in Iceland.

CanWest UK bidded for the Channel Five national commercial television licence in the early 1990s, which was subsequently awarded to Channel 5 Broadcasting.

In 2006, Canwest invested in Turkey by buying 4 radio stations,Super FM,Metro FM, Joy FM and Joy Turk FM, paying $61 million.
