Limbaži (pronunciation ) is a city in Northern Latvia, 90 km from the capital Riga. The population is approximately 10,000. Founded in 13th century near the castle of the archbishop of Riga. City rights since 1385. In the Middle Ages, it was a fortified town with stone city walls.
In October 2007 the town will host the international theatre festival: "Joy of Acting". The festival is celebrating the wonders of modern theatre from all over the world.
The national Olympic training center for canoeing and kayaking is situated in the town.
